  • I purchased Platinum but use X3...

I know there are many improvements and bug fixes that would make me sense to upgrade from X3 to Plt but here I'm sill running happily my X3e. It runs smoothly and I have learned to live with anomalies.

Many of the new features aren't targeted for me. For example:
Anderton's guitar stuff sounds nice but I record guitars and basses thru Axe FX II. Guitar Rig 5 can do the rest.
Control Bar's Custom module: no need - I have my own utility for that...
Mix recall: this is some serious stuff but I wait until it's tested to death.
Addictive Drums: no need - I have NI KOMPLETE, tons of other drum kits and ability to record real drum kit anytime.
Ready baked loops etc: no need (genre mismatch).

I'm not a typical SONAR user. I use SONAR to record and mix bands but also to produce songs.

I feel SONAR is mature enough software and now I can wait longer before upgrading. It hasn't been the weakest link in my studio since X1 days. It's not hardware or software that is the weakest, slowest or buggiest link - it's ME. :)

I think we all can say that and mean it!

I also thought X3 was very good. But i have not regretted getting on board with Platinum. The improvements to Skylight, Take Lanes, PRV, to name a few are worth it.

And there is nothing wrong with staying with X3. If that's what you want, by all means have fun!!

Has Take Lanes been improved in Platinum??
I haven't noticed any change so far... working as clumsy as before...

@panup:
The thread title says "purchased." You purchased it but haven't upgraded to it? Unless you don't like the new features (e.g. new FX Rack), I recommend upgrading. Lots of bug fixes (including 15+ year-long ones) will help you work faster.

Haha - I suspect I too am the ghost in the machine most of the time panup:)

It is a smart move to hold off on the upgrades, especially if the new features are not of interest.  I was working on a project that was started and nearing completion in platinum. Yesterday it would not load, with sonar taking forever to start and then going into some kind of endless window refresh loop. X3 loaded exactly the same project perfectly (and quickly) and I was able to continue working. After rolling back to update 2,  the project would again load in Platinum.

I love the new features in Platinum but I am not quite ready to retire X3 completely just yet.
I know there have ben many threads arguing for and against Platinum being slower than X3 so I won't go there again:) Over the years I have noticed that often after several versions these issues disappear without acknowledgement.

Looking forward to our next update:)

I tested it briefly but decided not to install it on my studio PC yet.
One thing I didn't mention in the first post: in X3 I have fine tuned, customized interface colors and gfx. Those customizations don't work in Platinum. So far there hasn't been anything to make me leave my favorite customizations and familiar environment behind...

Is a shame for those of us who have moved to Platinum that Duckbar doesn't work anymore. It was truly a great addition. Unfortunately for me, just Mix Recall alone is worth more than all the Duckbar enhancements so, I'm staying with Platinum. I miss Duckbar but not enough.
