Working on a new track and I still can't get notes to snap to time in Staff View.  The blue grid on the Control Bar says I am snapping to 1/8 notes, but when I draw notes or when I paste MIDI notes or clips, they end up at off times (like 12:1:03 or 11:4:114).  (I am using 120 ticks per quarter.)

This has always worked before.  There *must* be some setting that got screwed up, but I have looked everywhere I know to loo.

NOTE:  NOT JUST A STAFF PROBLEM.  THIS AFFECTS SELECTING IN TRACK VIEW.

Snap to nearest nearest audio zero crossing enabled? If you have any audio present that will scew the snap slightly. You'll find it in the snap preferences.

Well, FBB, the audio zero crossings was checked, but unchecking it did not fix this.  This is really weird.

There must be some keyboard shortcut I hit by mistake that changed something.

Thanks for the idea, though.

Probably not it but have you checked your Snap "To/By" setting?

Really does not sound like that is the issue but it's worth a look. Maybe a magnetic strength thing going weird? Landmarks?

Just rambling off the usual culprits but I'm sure you've already checked.

Cheers.

And althoug FBB's suggestion didn't work did you restart the project? Does it persist in older project versions/new projects? Maybe something got corrupted.

Along the same theme as audio crossing, are there any other landmarks checked? Clips? MIDI notes? Audio transients or anything else that might give unexpected results.

Seriously, this is driving me nuts because it is taking me two or three times as longer to create parts.

• Snap To grid is on
• Snap To value is set to 1/8
• Snap to time value is off
• Landmarks (Midi, Clip, Audio, Markers) are off

Entering 1/8 notes in staff they still end up at odd times: never on a musical value.

Selecting in track view is always off.

This is a huge productivity hit.

Just to be clear, is it all snap operations? i.e. Are you seeing drawn notes in staff view off, and time selections or drag and drop in the track view off as well?

Is it consistent? i.e. every note? Is it always the same amount of offset or random?

I'm racking my brains here trying to think of a setting that would do that but can't think of anything other than the zero crossing.

Is magnetism on 'extreme' (to rule that out)
