  • Plt slow to load projects - why? (p.3)

If you are having hanging issues start another thread I suggest and get it troubleshooted. We've resolved a number of these issues via driver/firmware+plugin updates. Even running Sonar as administrator.

We hear over and over again in these forums till we are blue in the face that just because the previous Sonar worked the new version of Sonar must be buggy. That is a giant red herring and incorrect assumption. All software has dependencies, and over and over again we get the issues resolved one way or another.

Also (back on topic)/please check out my earlier recommendations for speedier startup.

Thanks..

I'm having the same slow opening issue as the OP!  You might have missed that in my comment.  A new thread is not warranted.  I know all the tricks of the trade for lightening my OS, and all of the suggested tricks you supplied.  This is not a gamebreaker for me, but just something that occurs.

^^ I agree, and am a bit confused by the immediate assumption that there are system/operator issues associated with this. Unless I misread something, everyone in this thread is using X3 and Platinum on the same machine (you cannot get a better control group than this).

To make an observation that is not to other's "liking" is totally immaterial to the observation being made. It is a "simple fact," nothing more. The OP was simply to understand "why" not that it is an earth-shattering event... there is nothing wrong with asking why so people understand.

No assumption I just read what was written...

While the project plays perfectly in X3 over and over, it hangs up after a while in Splat.

What was written in bold was the confusion, Lynn stated there was a hang. I also clearly stated "If you are having hanging issues". Thanks's for the clarification in that it's the same as everybody else's issue. I assume then you are not having hanging issues (I don't see anybody having them either).

I was also clear to separate the above comment as well from the OP as if you see my last post I wrote "back on topic".

Come on, Alex.  You supplied the bold letters, not me.  I just reiterated what the OP said.  My remark about my project hanging in Platinum was just an aside, not looking for a solution to a new problem.  I hope you're not taking your moderator's position too highly ;)

My comment was an aside too as is clear for all to see, the reason why I supplied bold letters is people were questioning why I was saying what I was saying including yourself. However it was not at all clear that what you wrote was an "aside" until now, and others clearly missed your comments about a hang (which is clearly what I was responding to). Anyway I am glad now we can get back on topic and the confusion is over.

I hope you're not taking your moderator's position too highly ;)

BTW I am NOT a moderator nor am I a host, that's just a cheap attempt to cut hosts down to size, but I'm afraid you can't use it on me this time.

Let's get back on topic now the confusion is over shall we.

Thanks..

Calm down, everyone. I think we're missing a very important point here, which was mentioned by mettelus.

I have noticed this as well when initially starting Platinum versus X3, but after the first launch of the program they both act comparable to simply opening the same project.

Do you all agree with this?
I do.

Hi everyone
It's been good to read that my problems with slow loading on sonar platinum are not just relegated to myself!
Takes ages to load projects, and even new projects also!

I've done loads of stuff, thinking it may be a conflict somewhere.....
Run as administrator etc etc but still the same.
I've got a 16gb ram computer running windows 8.

I hope that this problem can soon be resolved!

My projects have always loaded slowly under X3, and also load equally slowly in Platinum. In many cases, the screen goes white with the message "Sonar not responding" in the upper left corner. If I wait 30 seconds or so, the project finally loads.

Hi Mc Donalk
Interesting, i've progressed through from X1,X2 and X3, but never known the loading times quite as slow as what i'm experiencing with Platinum!
I get the white screen quite frequently, sometimes it crashes and sometimes it holds together, in all i've found the program to be quite unstable, which is quite disappointing as I really like the workflow of Sonar and have invested quite a lot of time and money in it!

I work with CAD software and this sounds so familiar, since i'm also a Platinum user (with formerly installed X3) I can at least offer a different point of view:
  1. Programs are slow because MS Windows is slow, particularly when timing out searching for a dead search path.  CHECK ALL THE FOLDER MAPPINGS IN THE FOLDER LIST, and make sure each one is correct and to the proper version, an upgrade program may have copied an old path to a new program causing a mismatch.
  2. Drivers, DRIVERS, and more of the same.  Two programs were written on two versions of MS .NET programming, plus each one came with it's own set of hardware/software drivers.  You could simply be loading a driver in the new program that was intended for the old program.  Then the program gets into a loop on a simple routine such as load track, and that loop fails over and over and over again, causing the error handler to pick up and fix the problem over and over and over again, and whala, you have time wasted loading a project.
  3. The Project Files themselves.  You have audio data, midi data, video data, links to plug-ins, and controllers, and all the like.  If S3 and SP map them out differently, then hopefully only the first time I open a massive project will I see a lag, the second time should be way faster as it is 'upgraded' into the newer system.  Try this Open the slow project, SAVE AS new project (such as Bogie-S3 vs Bogie-SPlt), just to make sure the next time you reopen its using the upgraded project file.  Upgrades may be subtle like adding a 1 or 0 based list in the system, but see item 2 for how a subtle problem can add up quickly.
In the end result, I only have installed the 1 version I use, and all is well.  So buy a new machine, you wanted to upgrade anyway, or install Microsoft Hyper-V and create a new OS install of windows (perfectly legal).  Run one with the old S3 and one with the new Splt, and test things out in separate playgrounds until you have found the exact culprit, then post back here with your findings.
