Sorry if this thread wasted anyone's time...

I tried repeating this tonight and was unsuccessful, so I'm guessing it must have been pilot error... Maybe exactly as I described it above?

Thanks for everyone's time and effort!

Yeah...

Me too... I've been very unhappy since the introduction of Lanes as a replacement for Layers... Yes, they opened new opportunities such as the comping mode, but at too great a cost. I spend far too much time making up for other issues they have brought... I don't remember zoom issues ever being a problem before Lanes and can only hope that the Bakers somehow pull us out of these issues soon. It's now near 2 years (?) of these frustrations...

But enough of my whining about them as we're stuck with them for the foreseeable future... At least we can hope for some fixes soon?

I second your whine.  I still hate Lanes.  Layers worked fine, like "virtual tracks" on the old Roland V-Studio recorders, but better.  I still want to make many takes on a particular track, then cut and paste into various Lanes, so that clips sometime overlap within a track.  This is much tougher in Lanes than in Layers.  I will give soloing a test, but have also found Lanes buggy in Platinum, and I had some sort of muting problem with them in the first Platinum release, but have forgotten exactly what.

Hi Saxon...

I do have overlapping clips much of the time. When Lanes were first introduced, I had trouble doing so, but as I got used to the new tools, it became easy again... Being careful which tool is in use was the issue for me...

My biggest issues with lanes are:
Bad use of screen real estate... Typically lanes are too big or too small for my needs outside rough comping.
The use of the track space showing the promoted clips/lanes is a constant problem for identifying the data I wish to select or work on. I wish there was some way to turn that on or off as well as a way to place lanes within the track instead of below it!

But again, this thread was not intended as an anti-lane thread. Stars know I've pisted plenty of them... I can only hope these issues are soon addressed so that the slow down of my workflow and comfort can be returned or maybe even improved. Some of the new tools are definitely helpful!

Plenty of anti-lane threads, but little effect on Sonar.  Honestly, I almost quit Sonar after 12 years of use just because of lanes.  +1 to everything you said.  I still track in X1 because I hate the distraction of the promoted lane space.

I guess I must enjoy screaming more than porting songs between different apps and remembering all the different commands and methods...

If I could at least turn off the promoted image it would help my eyes and workflow a lot!

But this really isn't the purpose of this thread... I'd be happy to contribute more to threads about fixing lanes more as its already been made plain that we will not be going back to layers...

Maybe they could add a command to collapse/hide the promoted lane space--a new button near the collapse lanes button.  New feature request?

Why not?

I'm on my way to the request forum!
