  • Shell2Vst is not a recognized command in Win7, yet it worked in past installation [SOLVED]

I did a clean install of Win7 and it solved some Platinum problems I was having with excessive dropouts. But in order to open CWP projects from the past with lots of plugins I need to solve this problem with these old Waves plugins.I can drag Waveshell VST 5.0.dll or Waveshell.dll onto Shell2Vst.exe, but I get an error message saying it can't find the Waves plugins, so it fails. If I use Command Prompt and do the same thing, I get an error that says unrecognized command

I tried choosing "run as administrator" in opening Command Prompt that didn’t' work.I tried going into the registry and right clicking on "Classes" and giving me permission for Full Control, but that didn't' fix it. I know in the past many years ago I was able to get this to work, because I reverted back to one of those images in which I installed the Waves and those plugins are found in old CWP projects.

In the old install that does work, I went into Plugin Manager and noticed that the Waves plugins were in the DX box, since they are native DX plugins and I noticed that they show up in the VST box also, but in this box there are 2 instances of every plugin. I if I select a plugin and read the properties I see that one VST plugins is assigned to DXshell.dll and another is assigned to Waveshell VST 5.0.

In the clean install after failing with SHell2VST, I had to simply copy and paste the VST Waves into Cakewalk\VstPlugins. I get the DXShell.dll plugins to show up in Plugin Manager, but I don’t' have the 2nd instance of the plugin that is assigned to Waveshell VST 5.0.dll. When I open an old file in Sonar I get and error message saying it can't find some of the Waves plugins, the ones that are assigned to WaveShell VST 5 0.dll

It seems like I remember something way in the past where I had to register a plugin or something to get Windows to recognize it. Could that be it? I'm perplexed and at a standstill. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the fix.
plugin manager
vst configuration - options
check -  rescan failed plugs
check - rescan existing plugs
ok
scan vst plugs

Now in the vst box, I see not only Waves RComp Mono but also RComp Mono
select RComp Mono and at bottom see
c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins\waveshell-vst 5.0.dll

select Waves RComp Mono and at bottom see
c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins\dxshell.dll

So now all waves pluggins are fine.

It's good that I copied all Waves vsts from my other Win7 install to this current install, since shell2vst didn't work. It took the reset and rescan to have waveshell-vst 5.0.dll work
