I'm still using Sonar 6 where the VST interface is a little choppy...
Please explain. I used Sonar 6 for nearly 2 years and I was never aware of any VST issues.
Performance is good I suppose, but Square I crashes every once in a while. It might be Square I or it might be the host. Either way, it's a ten year old synth so I'm not worried about it. Regardless, my main issue is pretty light. The VST preset management isn't very good in Sonar 6, imo. There is no default directory for loading/saving so it is a pain to locate your presets folder every single time you want to save. .fxb and .fxp never get assigned in Windows file types shell, and when you want to save changes you've made to an .fxb or .fxp, it automatically appends an additional ".fxp" or ".fxb" to the filename which makes the presets folder pretty incoherent. So if I want to make an "Initialize.fxp" and change it, I end up with an additional "Initalize.fxp.fxp" and so forth.
I imagine it is much better in Sonar X1. Hopefully... either way I'm not concerned as much about how Sonar 6 handles VSTs. I'm mostly curious about how things have gone down since Cakewalk bought rgc:audio because Cakewalk was very adamant about the DirectX format while rgc:audio used VST exclusively. If I can use either DX or VST in Sonar, I'd like to use the one that the plug-ins were original designed in. That's why I was wondering whether or not Cakewalk designs their Virtual Instruments first in VST or DX.
