I will report it to the bug report option on Cakewalk site when I get to it and after I hear from Plugin tech support, but I wanted to ask if anybody saw it before with any other software synths and what you think about this behavior.
 
The bug: I am using Cakewalk Sonar Platinum  When inserting Tone2 Saurus 1 in the project, it triggers Shut Down operation of Windows. It is very reproducible constant occurrence. Windows says, "Sonar prevents it from shutting down", which gives me option to select "Return to Windows," and then Sonar is asking if I want to save before closing and I get to Cancel and return to what I was doing. At that time Sonar creates Midi and Instrument track that called Saurus, but plugin would not load- it opens as empty window. When I want to delete the synth and the associated tracks, it attempts to shut down Windows again. I remember I had issue with IK Multimedia soft synths where they would open empty instrument pages. I had to go to driver options- something like right-clicking on .dll and it would open settings and I did something and it improved, but I cant remember what it was. Also it never attempted to shut down Windows with Sonar. I used Saurus before in Sonar X3 and this did not happen. Also today Image Line Sytrus inserted last week was found with black window and when attempted to close, it froze Sonar and I had to restart computer.  

Tone2 ReyBlaster and Nemesis are shutting down Windows as well. These are my go to main plugins. I no for a fact that they were working in Sonar X3. Now I am attempting to open Sonar X3 and those plugins also not working. It attempts to shut down windows when when scanning these plugins or may be because I just inserted it before it failed last time.
 
 Also while it was scanning plugins, it came up with message, "Sample Tank 3: VPA PlugIn rejected VPA host. Controller ->initiation".
 However, I was able to insert and use Sample Tank 3.

Reset and then rescan your plugins in Sonar. Update to the latest version of the plugins as well. Consider updating your audio interface firmware and drivers.

It's more than likely you need to log the issue with the plugin suppliers first.

I've never heard of plugins or Sonar shutting down windows. You might want to give your PC a full virus scan and malware scan with malwarebytes. Also run windows update several times.

Thank you for your reply. What you mean by "Reset" plugins? The scan happens every 30 seconds one way or another- it scans continuously. The Audio interface driver has no issue or had no issues- it did not change. I contacted plugin manufacturer as well, but plugins did not change (there was no update to them). It is Sonar than changed from X3 to Platinum and then I installed Rapture Pro which has issues. I install Windows updates as they become available- there is no updates at this time.  
 
The virus... I don't see how it would affect software synth and not something more casual. This is strictly music computer- it is only ON couple hours at a time and the only web site I visited is cakewalk forums and my e-mail. I do disable the Norton Antivirus when installing soft synths, so there is the only time when something can attach computer but Norton does not report anything serious...  

I remember some guy had similar issues with UVI Workstation based stuff - and iLok required products - with Reaper. Have no idea if he solved it.
 
Other things that I read about Sonar is to have option in setting activated "Always stream audio through FX" or similar. Had something to do with certain plugins do not update gui unless receiving audio.

Thank you for your reply. Tone2 says- they heard of it and it caused by iLok and that their "paid" update will fix it. I know they had this issue in the past (couple of years ago) and recommended to reinstall their software with new installers. That problem did not effect me then, also I had all 3 plugins that not working today, working in the past. I did update iLok as something I installed prompted me to update it. But the shut downs happened before that. So again- it was working with iLok fine and then started to act out. I will get their paid ($70) update and see what happens. The 4th plugin that had update couple of days ago is the only one that working.

If they are half serious and care about customers - they should fix it for free obviously.
To corner a customer like that was not a nice gesture, what are they thinking.

The issue is resolved. It was related to iLok and the installing patch with fixed .dll resolved it. Sorry for the panic, but it is not pretty scene when your computer shuts down in the middle of unsaved session repeatedly.
 
I love Tone 2 plugins and was very upset as I thought- it could not be related to iLok because iLok was there for years. But I guess it was. Must be recent iLok update I installed.
 
I kind of feel that they should of offer update for free. They are great guys and they been more than generous with me, always offering 50% student discount and talk to me like they personally knew me forever. I was ready to buy Saurus update from 1 to 2 any way- I wanted to check if I like Saurus 1 and want to update to 2 and this is when I discovered it having issue. So I could ask for fixed Saurus 1 patch. I could not ask for free Saurus 2 update. (Or may be I could- they give it for free to those that bought Saurus in 2015, and I happened to buy it in 2013, but that is ok, because I get upgrade price plus student discount). It is all good. It working now. If you in to electronic music, Tone 2 is one of the best software synths on the market. Beautiful graphics, very innovative. I thought- I will say it here. Thank you for your help. Now off to continue troubleshoot Rapture Pro, Sample Tank 3 and IL Sytrus which are still under investigation.
