A replacement for my Echo Audiofire 12 may be in my near future. I'd like something with 16 line inputs. From what I have seen, that pretty much means a MOTU 16A but, I haven't heard much feedback from anybody about them (good, bad, or otherwise). Anybody using one??

Haven't used that specific interface, but my experience with MOTU has been generally very good. There's a myth that their interfaces are more Mac-friendly than Windows-friendly, but that hasn't been true for a long, long time.

not necessarily. an 8 input interface with ADAT will give you 16 channels - admittedly not line inputs but most preamps are dual mic/line input these days...for example Motu 8pre x 2 will be about half the price of the 16A...

Well I can proove that this myth is true cause my 828mk3 which I use on the road has terrible drivers..
Actually wanted to sell it many times but it is unique with all the functions it has..

Take a look at the Roland Studio Capture.

Craig: Yeah, I remember the old idea that MOTU catered to Mac but, I, too, had heard that was no longer true. I don't know much about the quality of their converters/overall sound, or their driver quality/stability with Sonar.
mgh: I wonder if there might be stability issues with using two interfaces together as compared to having everything in one? Don't know, just wondering.

You only use one as an interface the other is in essence just pre amps.lots of people use adat I'm sure they could reassure you

So, I guess, judging from the responses, nobody is using the MOTU 16A with Sonar Platinum.
Submarin seems to have issues with the drivers for his 828 mkIII.
Does anybody use any MOTU interface successfully with Sonar Platinum?
The idea of 2 MOTU 8 Pre's would save about $400 over the 16A so, that's a thought, too.

I won´t judge on the newer models, maybe windows drivers got better, with the 828 it´s definately not so cool.
I also have a RME Foreface UC and this thing runs fantastic on my Lenovo Laptop..

the MOTU was just an example-  you could choose, say, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 plus Octopre, RME have options and there are cheaper alternatives from the likes of Behringer and Alesis, and then there are more expensive options like Allen and Heath...
