  • Cakewalk Loop Manager hijacked my Cakewalk Content folder

So I happened to be on Steam two nights ago (right before Rapture Pro was released) and saw the Cakewalk Loop Manager.  I thought 'What the heck - at least I get a smattering of loops out of it' and installed it.  So far so good.

The next evening when I went to install Rapture Pro, during the install the file location selection window for "Programs and Presets was greyed out/uneditable and was set to the Cakewalk Content location in the Steam directory.  Grrrrr, but I went ahead for the time being.
Then came Dorchester.  I don't recall it having a similar content selection option, but I could be wrong there.

So I finally began to put this together when I couldn't find Craig's new FX Chain pedals.  So I did a search for .fxc files on my storage drive (F:\ , where my Cakewalk Content folder is, as well as the Steam folder with its Cakewalk Content folder) and found all of this...

Pretty much hijacked the CW Content folder entirely.  And this is overriding the paths set in Sonar Preferences

So I guess I'll manually move everything to where it's supposed to be, uninstall the Loop Manager and re-install Rapture Pro and Dorchester if needed.

So bottom line, I would steer clear of the Loop Manager!

This app is really only intended for STEAM installs of Cakewalk Products.

The STEAM client cannot really manage files or deliver them outside of the library, so everything needs to live there.

The key it changes lives in HKEY_LM\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\

It's called 'Content Dir". That's all you need to change back to your non-STEAM content directory (C:\Cakewalk Content.. etc)

Thanks Seth. I'll be taking care of that first thing this evening. I appreciate the help!
Cheers

Actually Seth, I think a better statement would be "This app is appropriate if you only intend to install Cakewalk products from Steam". You guys might want to consider changing the way the app sets up the content directory so that it's Steam install specific.

That did it, Seth.

Thanks!!

Ok.  I have to retract the SOLVED status for this.  The Anderton Collection Update just got installed to the Steam directory.  I didn't uninstall before since Seth was kind enough to provide the registry settings to fix (if you read this Seth, I double checked to make sure those hadn't been changed and they still point to the proper location).

So this time I will definitely uninstall the Loop Manager after I move the content.  I was hoping to keep it after the registry fix.

No Windows uninstaller.  No uninstaller on Steam.  Delete the folders and hope for the best?  I'll re-install the Anderton Collection after deleting the Steam folders and see if they find its proper home I guess.

Ok.  I think I have it now.  Seth your answer was half right.  There is a top level key (which I think is the one you pointed me to) which has the general content location listed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software
and the ContentDir key had the Steam folder listed.

What I found the first time and changed was nested further down under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum\ContentLocations
and there were 4 keys that had been changed to the Steam directory:
Audio Library
MIDI Groove Clips
PTN MIDI Patterns
Sample Content

Hopefully, I'm all good now.  Fingers  crossed!

SF_Green No uninstaller on Steam.
steam calls them "Delete local files" (IIRC) - is that not there?
