  • Close folder with selected track causes Track 1 to be selected.

This is not a new problem, but it's a constant irritation.

Create a project with three midi tracks (probably any kind of tracks ... )
Put track two and three in a folder.
Open the folder if not open already, select track two.
Close the folder: presto, track 1 is selected.

Not a big deal with three tracks, but if you have a hundred tracks, and are working in a folder that requires scrolling way down, you really do not want the screen to jump back to the top (track 1) when you close one folder in order to work on the next one down.

It also illustrates that odd thing in current Sonar, with one track being "selected" and another track having "focus" ... whatever that means or is used for ...  but the main thing is that a simple closing of a folder causes the screen to jump back to the top.

This actually isn't a bug. It's due to the setting under [Control Strips Visible in:] in Edit > Preferences > MIDI > Control Surfaces.
I believe you have "Track View" checked. Switch to "All Strips."

I don't use any control surfaces, icontakt, and where you indicated, "Control Strips Visible in", it is left at the default, "All Strips".   It's always possible there's another preference somewhere that affects this, but I haven't been able to find it.

Please post this kinds of threads in the Sonar forum.  We have ended up moving multiple such threads back from problem reports for you, and I would like to not have to keep doing this.

IF a thread in its original forum is confirmed behavior by others, AND is shown to be an actual bug, rather than simply undesired behavior, AND a CWBRN is generated and attached to the thread, THEN it can get moved to the Problem Reports forum - and all you have to do is send a PM to one or more of the forum hosts asking for it to be moved, or open a ticket and ask for it to be moved, and one of us will cheerfully and expeditiously move it for you.

One way to think if it is that the selected track/clip is the copy source, and the focused track is the paste target. This lets you independently define both - in either order - without disturbing the other, and then do a Ctrl+C,V to copy-paste in one go from one time and track to another time and track.

Do you have a Console view loaded in your Multi-dock?

I discovered that the "track view jumping to track 1 when closing a folder" behavior only occurs on my system when there is no Console view loaded into the Multi-dock.  Most users won't see this problem, because they probably have a minimized Console view open in the Multi-dock.

Then should a [Solved] tag be added to Title?

Colin,
  Thanks for confirming.

Maybe [Workaround] would be better.
I believe this is a defect and recommend that the OP enter a problem report.  I don't think most users would expect the track view to jump to track 1 when they close a folder containing track 20 and 21.

Thanks for the work-around.   In fact the only use I have for screensets is to have Console View on a different screenset than everything else, since routing work is relatively focused, done once or twice during a project's life time, and not usually involved day-to-day   Even though vertical space is so limited, I'll try having a tiny console view open in my most-used screenset and see if that works-around this problem.    Just the notion of putting the main sonar track view onto a less-used monitor helped a lot with workflow, so maybe this will be another incremental improvement.
