Can't break anything by trying it....

(but maybe wear some safety glasses just in case..)

What does "Use ASIO direct monitor" do?

That is a feature that asio hosts may support - if to use zero latency monitoring that bypass/shortcut the input armed to loop back to outs within soundcard drivers.

Not sure if Sonar support that.

In the driver settings window just below sample rate and clock there is "Audio buffer size".
This is separate from the ASIO buffer size and is set mid way...   try lowering that.

In which case it won't help.

Octacapture is usb, right?
I would try other usb ports.
May be something related to something else on the same usb root hub on MB.

And if using external hub - go to computer ports directly with interface.

I am starting to wonder if this is a USB Hub/port issue, but am having a hard time figuring out how I can identify what hub or controller is being used.

In device manager, look for usb root hubs.
On those you can see on power tab what is connected on those.
Which device and how much current it's expecting to get.

External hub register also as root hub, if I remember correct - so then you've got two levels of hardware in between.

Just tapping into computer directly will make improvements - bypassing external hub.

But to be systematic, use device manager and rule out where to put it.
While there you can also see to that system does not allow power to shut down on those ports.

I am currently attached to the computer directly.  I will take a closer look at the device manager when I get home.

Sonar does not support ASIO Direct Monitoring. (ADM)

When you say I am currently attached to the computer directly, do you mean that previously you had your octacapture card connected via an external USB hub? That won't work. You need to use a direct connection on the computer as you are doing now.
