Good evening guys.
I'm quite new in this field, I've just bought a Samson G-Track microphone in whose package I found this "Sonar X1 Le". I've learned to use it basically, concentrating on voice in particular. I'm not a sound engineer that's way I'd like to know from you this: take a listen to Shakira's "She Wolf" and you'll hear at the beginning of it some robotic and little suffused chrous, I mean when it says "S.O.S. she's in disguise". Can you help me copying that effect please? What effect or combination of effects do I gotta use? Waiting for replies, I know you'll be able to help me! Thankyou guys!  <3

Usually to get voices similar to that ill use auto tune or v-vocal and do a similar to t-pain effect and basically max out the tracking and retune. Then apply a stereo imager to help spread it and play around with reverb to kinda help smooth it. Also could add a demonic style sound with the default cakewalk Pitch shifter that you should have. Combine the low and hi pitched to make it slightly demonic then in combination with v-vocal( which i believes comes defualt in x1? i could be wrong) or auto-tune will give it a robotic sound.

A much simpler way would be to use a vocoder and ur midi controller.

I wouldn't doubt it if another experienced user comes along soon with a better or simpler method. These forums have very helpful individuals.

Just listened to it and it's a Vocoder as opposed to an autotune effct
Tal- Vocoder is free (donations) http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-vocoder
Image line http://www.image-line.com/plugins/Effects/Vocodex/ and and Melda both do good Vocoders at a reasonable cost. The latter is regularly on sale

I did vid a while back for TAL ...

Of course - Frampton ('replicated' in the vid') uses a Talkbox (based on a Sonovox) rather than a Vocoder.

Shakira's could also be a a Vocal Harmonizer - the likes of NI The Mouth, SONiVOX Vocalizer and SoundToys Little Alter Boy. It sounds like it's a regular vocal over a vocoded track(?)

Kamikazi and shell both have it down i my think. my first method wasn't I believe really an official way to do it. it's just the combination of those effects together can obtain a similar sound. Hope we helped.

Yours is a perfectly valid answer Woody. If it works and approximates the desired sound then it's correct. Mine is in no way an 'official' answer - I wasn't in the studio when she recorded it nor was  I on the set of her video ... unfortunately.

Check out some of the fx chains. Craig has created some vocoder like ones.
