  • As an X3 Producer user, will I be able to teach CbB to new users w/ same hot-keys?

I'm doing a 1-hour seminar next week to my St. Louis Musicians Group to anybody who has downloaded the CbB on the basics of using a DAW.  I personally have not downloaded CbB.  I am not sure I am going to.

Nevertheless, can those of you who know tell me if the majority of the hot-keys in CbB still do the same thing as they did in X3 (i.e. P= Preferences; B=Browser; D=MultiDock; I=Inspector)?  And maybe tell me any critical ones that might have changed?

Would appreciate it.  Thanks.

It should all be about the same. The only things I had to change was the stuff under files in preferences and also move my templates to the appropriate place but I've had to to that for all previous upgrades.

Just a thought.

If your user group are using the latest version of CdB and you haven't downloaded it, they may in the future have access to features which you don't.

How are you gong to teach a DAW, CbB, that is nearly 3 years in advance of Sonar X3, which is the height of your knowledge. There’s just so many features that your students will have access to that you won’t.

That was my first thoughts too.
My daughter is a teacher and I taught music lessons for 12 years so teaching is a skill I understand.
It's called "Preparing a lesson"

You owe it to your students to work in exactly the same environment they will experience.
It's reminds me of the computer course that was offered here and the teacher was still using Windows XP even though W7 had been out for a few years. His reasoning was ,,well the basics are all the same.

You will be best to install CbB to a fresh computer otherwise you won't have a feel for what is included. And besides, why are you reluctent to advance your software. There are big improvments made since x3.

Otherwise it's a good thing your doing so for that I commend you.

As an educator, I do everything in my power to get as close to what students will be using as possible.  Without fail, someone will ask you something that X3 simply doesn't have.  I try hard to do as much non-DAW specific conceptgs as possible but you are handicapping yourself by not familiarizing yourself.  If you stumble, it will be worse because the students will be aware that you failed to obtain a free product.

Just to echo the above, starting where the students are is paramount. I would also suggest installing CwB WITHOUT importing any preferences from X3e. You will have most likely made changes that they have not yet, which will force you to start from ground zero as well and make sure they get those settings correct.

Some things have changed, so teaching from X3 won't answer their first question, "What is this Start Screen all about and how do I disable it?"
