Draggable Now Time marker
You can drag the Now Time marker during playback. When the mouse button is released, the transport immediately jumps to the new location.

**********************************************

Hi all

Who is affected
The following is confirmed by me  [ in Win 7 X64 RC ]  and by a colleague of mine who is a MSDN subscriber who has access to the final / RTM Windows 7 X64.    It is NOT  a Sonar 8.5.1 issue - it is an O/S issue.   It is also NOT  present in Vista SP1  x64 or X32.   It  only  applies to Windows 7 X64 and X32 and  only  in systems using  more  than 2 physicial CPU's  and/or  more than 2  "logical" cores - ie:  Core i7 DAW's.

The Problem

Core Parking is VERY bad for DAW's - great for  non-DAW Laptops - but very bad for us in the DAW world.

See here for a bit of info / explanation / more info about CPU Core Parking - http://channel9.msdn.com/forums/Coffeehouse/453920-Windows-7-on-more-than-4-cores/
Without the following  " fix "  you will see massive CPU spiking in Sonar and Windows Task Manager - some CPU cores will be "turned off" / "parked" depending on load and they will be dynamically turned on or off and dynamically loaded up or down as the system deems necessary -  the scope for glitchs / pops / clicks / droputs  etc.... in such an environment is simply enormous.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no known "switch" to turn it off - no utility I am aware of to "tweak" it off.

The Fix

- go to REGEDIT
- Search and Find this key  [  54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00  ]  without the   "  [  ]  "
- alternately, you can search and find the phrase  "  Core Parking "  -  again without the  "  "
- either of the above searchs works and delivers the exact same results
- delete the key(s)
- make sure you search the whole Registry - you should find it  [ from memory ]  6  times but will only be able to delete  [ from memory ]  the first  2 or 3 instances - dont worry about the ones you cant delete - just delete all the ones you can
- exit the Registy
- Shutdown Win7
- Do a full cold shutdown and re-boot

The Result

Perfect* load balancing across all you CPU cores - no spiking - both in Windows 7 Task Manager and Sonars CPU meters

Hope the above is of help.

Tom

* -  you will still see some  " unevenness "  depending on the EFX / VST / Synths  etc... you use because unlike Sonar - which is excellently "coded" to be multi-thread aware, compliant and cpu-load-balanced,  many, many other  EFX's / VST's / Synth's  etc...   [ most actually ]    are very lazily and poorly coded / written and  are no-where near  as  " even "  when it comes to multi-thread awareness,  compliance and cpu-load-balancing.

I found this a few days ago.

Save track templates in folders.

set up your tracks the way you want them in the folders you want.
Goto file export/track template.  Like normal.

When inserting track templates goto the import filter at the top of the list and select it. Then just check the two boxes about folders.

Thanks Guitarpima! =)

Did you know......that you can change all Outputs, Volume, Icons, MIDI channels on many channels in one go? (Batch tools)

Yes you can!

  1. Select all then channels/ tracks in the ---> Arrangement Window that you want to change in “one go”, so they get highlighted/selected. (CTRL+Mouse click on--> track number)
  2. Go to the Top-Menu---> "Tracks"
  3. Inside “Tracks-Menu” select ---> “Property”.
  4. Inside “Property”- "Page-Menu”---> you see..example, Name, Outputs, Input, Volume, Icon and so on..
  5. Select a property you want to change example “Icon”-assignment.
  6. After selected the "icon" of your choice--->as you can see all select tracks change to that selected “Icon”.
  7. All this options in the “Property-Page” can be bind to---> Keycommands.

Great isn't it? What a time savior!
Hope it helped!

Regards
Freddie

This tip was added by Wicked!

(prologue: Cake it would be very nice if we could upload images directly to the forum, this linking stuff sux)

So I remember loving the screenset layouts of SAW+ back in the day.  Granted it used way more windows than SONAR but their implementation was excellent.

Recently with the help of some forumites I dove into SONAR's Layouts, and now with some keybinding and shortcuts I'm in heaven.

So, this is my normal SONAR layout, nothing special, but the widgets take up a lot of space (this is only one of my monitors, the other holds the PRV and plugin GUIs).  I saved this layout and bound it ALT+F1:

So I created another layout that has the widget pane entirely collapsed.  I then created a keybinding for it (ALT+F2).  For arranging it's fantastic as I can be zoomed out a little more and really see a lot more data:

The problem? I easily see what tracks are what, switch them, or anything else.  So I created a third layout with just enough of the widget pane available that I can see the expand/collapse buttons.  The bonus of this is that it also reveals the major widgets I need. I bound this to ALT+F3:

Now, with just a keystroke, I can switch my screen to any level of detail I want.  In practice it's already been great when doing basic arranging or deeper editing.

I'm glad you put this here Freddie. It worked for me after I read the post that Wicked made. As I said in his thread I knew about Layouts for a long time but never used them until this post. BTW this reminds me about Logic which has a similar system that uses the numpad to changes views. I always liked that ability now I have it again. My thanks to you and Wicked.
