Hello--

I'm trying to use a feature in Melodyne where I can edit a single source that used two mics that went to two separate tracks, then be able to edit each track separately after the Melodyne edits. (Watched it in a video and now I need to use it real world).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd6yBCVSLsM&feature=player_detailpage&list=PLA3B2FC0A5A99188D

The setup is basically, let's say, track one mic'd the neck of a guitar, and track two mic'd the body.

I create two mono buses and route the two guitar tracks to them, respectively. The two mono busses are then routed to a stereo bus where Melodyne is inserted and the editing takes place on both tracks at the same time.

After the Melodyne edits are done, I want to be able to then work with each of the two tracks separately (EQing, etc) and they say to route the stereo bus where I inserted Melodyne, to two additional mono buses.

My question is, when I insert a new bus, my choices are stereo or surround. How do I create a mono bus? Is that what the interleave-mono button is for?

I went through the whole explanation in case you know of a way I can do the above. I want to be able to edit both tracks of the same source at the same time in Melodyne, and then I want to be able to edit both single tracks separately after the Melodyne edits.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Stephen

I read on and see that the interleave mono button is the one I want.

I wonder in my above routing if I need the 1st two mono busses?

OK, I'm a little stuck here. How to I send a stereo bus to two mono busses? The bold type is where I'm stuck. I feel like I need to insert a send on stereo bus 1 for it to have two outputs that I can assign to mono busses, but doesn't feel right.

Short version EXAMPLE of above routing:

Mono track 1 (L) goes to mono bus 1
Mono track 2 (R) goes to mono bus 2
Mono busses 1 & 2 go to stereo bus 1 (Melodyne edits)
Stereo bus 1 sends the left side to mono bus 3
Stereo bus 1 sends the right side to mono bus 4
Mono busses 3 & 4 go to stereo bus 2

In the video, they say it works in all DAWs, but they don't show Sonar as an example.

Help.

You may find it easier to bounce the two mono tracks, one panned hard left and the other hard right to a new stereo track. Do the Melodyne work then spilt the corrected track back to two mono tracks.

How do I split the stereo/corrected track back to two mono tracks?

In the "Bounce To Tracks" dialog choose the "Split Mono" Channel Format.

Alright buddy, thanks.

I think that makes a lot more sense than 6 busses for one instrument. :-O

I record in 24/96 and use the 64 bit bounce option, so I think it's safe to say that's lossless!

I like learning new things, especially when it comes to music.

Cheers
