This is a regular long standing problem and it's plaguing the hell out of me!!

For no good reason that I can find, when working on a track and adding a VST - which is becoming more often - I get no audio from the VST through the Sapphire Pro 40.

Looking at <Edit/ Preferences> the Sapphire is there and all the I/O show up correctly. When playing a VST, the VU meters in Sonar indicate, showing that audio is outputting - but no audio from the Sapphire. No headphone from it. The Sapphire mixer control panel doesn't show any audio output either.

A Youtube audio from the internet plays out through it OK though and the various start-up audios from the PC also - but nothing from any VST loaded in Sonar.

Last time I had this problem (January), I did a Windows restore which seemed to sort it our - although I have no idea what upgrade caused the problem and no indication/resolution of the problem. I must conclude that an update has affected just Sonar.

Is anyone else plagued with this?? What is causing this and how do I stop it? Should I disconnect upgrades and the internet completely? That would be a problem because so many organisations want to use downloads instead of CDs and there are always the irritating and license issues.

Right now I can't use my studio because the next step is a VST insert - which doesn't work!!

Are you using the Saffire's ASIO drivers? If not Windows is probably taking over the drivers and not letting SONAR use them.

You state VST but are you referring to VSTi, a soft synth, if so make sure input echo is engaged.

Hi Anderton...yep it's Sapphire's ASIO drivers.

Hi rabeach..it's all soft synths - Omnisphere, Torch guitar, Electri6ity and Komplete 9. No Audio out from any of them.

Input echo is also engaged.

You don't mention anything about your MIDI routing. You do mean it's audio tracks meters moving in SONAR, not those of MIDI tracks?

Hi Kalle..

The midi only tracks are fine and not affected. The midi track of a VST instrument shows activity as does the audio level meter of the same VST track.
Everything looks right except there's no audio out from the Sapphire and nothing shown on the Sapphire mixer control panel VU

Hi Doktor Avalanche..thanks for the link, very interesting, but my issue is that there is NO audio coming back out of the DAW at all. It appears as if the Sapphire is faulty, but it shows up as "powered", "locked" and " active", but I think it's fine. I have another USB I/F so I might have to try that and see if it delivers audio.

Issues I had with trialing Pro 40 was tiny bend in firewire cable - caused audio go away slowly back and forth.
These type of connectors are really sensitive.
Took me an evening of troubleshooting some years ago.

Usually I could see a hint by looking at which core runs audio when starting interface.
Then check that in taskmanager, or if new performance in Sonar works as good - but don't remember if X3 had that.

Still sounds like routing. Check master bus settings. Also try uninstaling and reinstalling mix control.

I also believe routing is probably the issue either in your audio interface mixer or within Sonar. Have you tried using another driver protocol than ASIO. Cable issues and a failing power supply in the pc can cause intermittent audio interface issues.
