I find comping MIDI to be a pain.   When you go to the PRV, it shows ALL notes from different take lanes even when one lane is playing.  How can I just focus PRV to show the notes I have active instead of all the takes?

Thank you.

Comping MIDI and having ALL the notes in PRV at one time, is also a big issue for me! The only way I've found to  deal with it is to speed comp the lanes down to a 'comp' lane, then delete the rest of the lanes that have been muted. By doing this though, I loose the ability to go back to the and re-edit my 'comp' lane.

Just occurred to me.... perhaps instead of deleting the muted lanes, I could take all the unused lanes, move to a new track and archive. Still, an awkward workaround.

There are two improvements I'd like to see with MIDI comping. This thread describes one. The other is a "Drum Machine" mode where you can comp while hearing previously recorded tracks.

I split all the tracks and then roll away (slip edit) the ones I am not editing. It is the only way I can do it.

View > Hide Muted Clips will take care of hiding notes of unused comp clips in the PRV until you flatten the comp. At that point, it would probably be best to copy the finished comp to another track and archive and hide the comped track. Or just be brave and throw out the comp takes. I try not  to keep a lot of unused MIDI around for very long in any project.

Comping is not really well suited to MIDI in general especially where you have lots of overlapping notes. MIDI is so easily edited that just getting one halfway decent take, and fixing the individual errors is usually easier than comping. I wager that if audio could be edited with the same degree of selectivity, comping would never have been invented.

i get what your saying, because it is easily editable, why do 10 takes..  but I dont do 10 takes for accuracy reasons, I try out different parts, different riffs, etc...  I noodle around until I get the part right, but I would want to have all those takes so I can compare.

I wish it worked exactly like audio comping!

So what's not working about Hide Muted Clips in that scenario?
