I'm asking very nicely, as in pretty polly please

Does anyone have a track template that has a multi output configuration and drum map for BFD3 in sonar X3 such as this one below for AD2?

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013364/Setting-up-a-Drum-Map-for-Addictive-Drums-2-in-SONAR-X3

If so I would be eternally grateful if I could get a copy of it to save me the hard work of setting up the drum map and then manually setting up the track template

Thanks very much
Alex

You won't find a singular drum map from BFD3 as drum maps are, 'per kit' as different kits in BFD3 have different kit pieces and articulations so they will have different mappings.

I stopped using drum maps with BFD2 when I discovered that all the kit pieces show up in the piano roll automatically with BFD Eco, BFD2 and now BFD3. AFIK fxpansion are the only 3rd party kits to do this. This is a major benefit because not only do they automatically show up in the piano roll they also update if you add or remove kit pieces from BFD3.

Apart from the ability to solo individual kit pieces in the piano roll I don't see anything that the drum amp offers so I haven't missed it. Using the BFD3 key mapping page is extremely quick and easy to use.

I could upload some multiple out templates for you at some point assuming this forum alows me to upload zip files?
Otherwise I'll put them on mediafire and post a link.

Thanks very much Steve

How do you get the individual kit peices to show up in the piano roll? I've not sussed it or are you saying that only AFIK expansion kits do that  and not the core kits?

If you could upload templates I'd be eternally grateful

Thanks

No all kits show up in the piano roll whether they're fxpansion or any other kits.

As long as your midi track is pointing at BFD3 and you have a kit loaded it will always show up in the piano roll view.
If you load another kit or add or remove kit pieces you will need to come out of the piano roll view and then go back to it so it can refresh and update.

Can't upload pictures here but hopefully this link will work

FXpansion has always had this. Dr008 had the same ability. Their drum synths communicate with Sonar creating a drum map on the fly. A very nice feature.

As to a template for outputs I tend to decide which output I use after BFD3 is loaded and has created all the audio tracks it wants. BFD3 will support mono out or stereo out. You can have all the tracks it creates as mono by selecting mono for all track outputs in the pop up dialog when one inserts it via the synth rack.

There's also a new feature with BFD3 that will auto assign outputs which is useful but it doesn't name the tracks in sonar so you still need to figure that out your self. You can access it by right clicking in the mixer.

As far as multi output templates are concerned there a so may ways of doing this depending on how you use BFD3.
If like me you do most of your effects processing within BFD3 there's little need to use multi outputs.
Having said that I have a standard template that does route kick, snare, hats, toms and cymbals to separate outputs.
Typically you would route your kick and snare to mono outs as these won't usually be panned left or right so stereo isn't needed. Because I use BFD3 effects which, whilst I know there may be better effects the margins are fine and I find it much quicker and more intuitive to use the on board effects and as they are effects made for use with drums I have found it gives me more ideas creatively. I like to mutilate my drums sometimes

So I will route my kick snare and hats to their own auxiliary channels which will then be routed to either mono or stereo outs in sonar and then I usually group the toms and cymbals to their own auxiliaries which will be routed to stereo outs and then each of the ambient channels to either stereo or mono outputs in sonar.
Bear in mind with the new BFD3 kits there are a lot more options with regard to ambient channels as you now have 3 mono and 2 comp channels in addition to the room, overhead and amb3/far room channels.

So as I said at the beginning, although I start with a multi out template (as described above) the fact that I rarely (almost never) use and 3rd party effects, coupled with the BFD3 mixer being equally as good and in some ways much better than sonars, there is really no need for me to use the multi outputs and it sounds exactly the same if I just use one stereo master output and do all my mixing and processing in BFD3. I use the multi out template just in case I do want to use effects that I feel BFD3 doesn't have

I will post some templates if it helps when I get some more time.

If you're new to BFD3 I would strongly recommend getting either of the following tutorials

BFD3 Explained from Groove3

or even better BFD3 Demystified from askaudio

They're both great but BFD3 Demystified is only $19 right now so almost half the price.
I actually bought BFD3 Explained but having watched clips of BFD3 Demystified I kind of prefer the presentation
but they're both very good.

Okay, this is a template I took from a song I started on a while back but thought it might be interesting to all you BFD3 users out there.

I've suggested having a global effects dial that could be automated as a feature request on the fxpansion forum a few times but so far to no avail. Sam at fxpansion suggested this method instead so I've used it and it does the job but takes a little time to set up. A global dial or just a global effects bus built in would be so much quicker.

What I wanted to do was to fade the effects on this kit in gradually You can here it in context of the song Here.
You can hear it starts completely dry before the effects fade in and it's quite heavily processed.

Anyway, you can remove the midi track and effects and just save it again as another template.

Here's a link to the template.

I have just upgraded to BFD3 and barely understood BFD2. When loading a Kit, or a preset, the Drum map in Sonar looks like the map referenced earlier by twaddle - but a lot of kit pieces and articulations aren't "there". Is there a way to "clean up" the orphaned artic's so that just the artics of the kit are displayed?
