Hi Dono

That's a good point actually and the only way you can get rid of those is to get rid of them in BFD3's key map page which is very quick easy, Sonar's piano role will update to match BFD3's key mapping.

I strongly recommend getting to grips with BFD3's key map page.
I tend to like my drums laid out to the old general midi standard with kick at the bottom and then snare, hats, toms and cymbals above. It is a pain though and whether you use drum maps or just let sonar's piano role update it still requires mapping to get it how you want it.
Even though sonar's piano roll updates according to the midi map it doesn't mean you won't have to make changes
if you add or remove kit pieces.
Another thing you should be aware of is that when you add a new kit piece in BFD3 it won't automatically map it for you so that's another reason you'll need to get to grips with BFD3's key map page.

I think it would be great if BFD3 did that, and I think I may have suggested this as a feature request but was told it was extremely difficult to do or something.

The thing is there is only one keymap for BFD3 which is supposed to cover all the stock kits and their potential articulations. Key maps are created on a per kit basis, sometimes presets will have their own keymaps but generally not. That's why you have to do it your self at some point.

It's one of the most complex areas of vst drums and obviously the more articulations and kits you have the more complex it becomes, there are a lot of keyboard drummers out there who need to map kit pieces to the way they play so it needs to be flexible.

Incidentally, the template I posted was for the purpose of routing and I hadn't realised that the keymap had been ignored.

You're welcome,

Since you're out in the open about struggling ti get to grips with BFD3 I would also strongly recommend either of the two tutorial videos from ask audio and groove3.

I linked them in one of my posts above and although I don't have the ask-audio one it actually looks like it might be better as well as being much cheaper.

Okay, this is a template I took from a song I started on a while back but thought it might be interesting to all you BFD3 users out there.

I've suggested having a global effects dial that could be automated as a feature request on the fxpansion forum a few times but so far to no avail. Sam at fxpansion suggested this method instead so I've used it and it does the job but takes a little time to set up. A global dial or just a global effects bus built in would be so much quicker.

What I wanted to do was to fade the effects on this kit in gradually You can here it in context of the song Here.
You can hear it starts completely dry before the effects fade in and it's quite heavily processed.

Anyway, you can remove the midi track and effects and just save it again as another template.

Here's a link to the template.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for providing this.  One question; what kit did you use on this - was it one of the factory ones?  I'm guessing from the preset name it's one of your own making.  Without making you spell out exactly what was in each track, could you let us know if you based this around one kit mainly and added a few pieces or is this completely a custom kit.

Thanks!

Ahh, good question, I had forgotten that it's not one of the BFD3 stock kits I used for that track, it's actually Chocolate Audio's Imperial drums which I really like.  http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=211&tab=506

As I was essentially offering up the template as a means of demonstrating how to fade all the effects in at once I guess it doesn't matter which kit you use but obviously different kits will sound completely different especially when they're so heavily processed as that particular one is.
