I was curious so I grabbed a W10 Laptop we have at work. First I unistalled Home Studio and anything but the SI instrument suite. I was told that is the additional content you can choose to download.

So I signed up under a made up name etc and signed in to Bandlab home page. Iwas expecting to find a huge link for the download of the assistant app? It was hard to find and was just a little link at the bottom of the web page.

Anyhow got that going and downloaded and installed within 15 minutes.

So I opened and poked around and here's what was there:

Under VST's there was only the SI instruments and TTS-1 for synths.
In the Effects there is only the Sonitus stuff, Boost11 and TH3,
The Pro channel is very stripped down with I guess what came with Artist. There are no Compressors. Just the Consol emulators.
OK I did not dowload the addition stuff as it was over a GB and IT Dept will notice me. So if there is more than just SI stuff included someone let me know.

Otherwise this is more or less Sonar Artist  certainly not Splat.

Hmm. No drum replacer or vocal sync? Adaptive Limiter?

The drum replacer and Adaptive limiter are not part of the SONAR Platinum installer so are not part of CbB either. VocalSync is in CbB along with the MFX plug-ins.

I was thinking about installing CbB on a laptop too, just to see what's what, but SPlat's already on that laptop and in the end I don't guess it really matters.  Either I go with CbB or I don't.  I'm just bothered by this whole debacle, I guess.

regarding Cakewalk by BandLab ....
instead of looking for plugs & stuff..... why not look at what you are getting feature wise ?
i put it on 2 machines where i had Splat .....as far as i can tell I still had mix recall and a bunch of other features i didn't get when i was running  X3 PE ....
need i list them ? that in it self blows away the whole comparing CW BL E to HS ...

Yes ? No ?

Certainly not. Compare Home Studio with Platinum General and Control bar sections of the comparison chart

Edit: Even better BandLab finally produced a comparison chart for CbB and SONAR http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3750958

OK it might be closer to using Artist.

I was just curious as to what a brand new user would be getting VST and Plug in wise, I totally understand that the features might be the same as Platinum. But my experience on opening it is it really reminded me of Home Studio more than Splat. Mostly because of the sparse Pro Channel offerings and the VST offerings. Yes it does have the synth Rack and Event List etc unlike HS.

Don't get me wrong the intent of this is not to bash it at all, I just was curious about what the experience would be like for a new user who didn't have prior versions installed. We will end up helping new users here and it will be good to know what they have and don't have.

I see all the other regular PC modules and Style Dials that are bundled with Platinum in the Cakewalk.exe installer.  This confirms what I have read but if they do not show up, it may be a support issue (if not something peculiar to your installation). There should be a bunch of folders and dlls in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal - the default PC module folder.

Also not sure about your info on Instrument.exe. I did not download it, so cannot look in the installer for what it contained but read it was the Artist Instrument Collection. The SI Instrument Suite is a different installer.

Some of the things in CbB missing in Artist: VocalSync, patch points/aux tracks, plug-in load balancing and MIDI tranform tool.

OK I was wondering about that.
When I was un installing everything I had Artist Instrument and the SI and I un installed the Artist and kept the SI.
So only way to really do this is I'll bring the Laptop home this weekend and download the supplied extra files.

I got a nasty email from the IT dept last time I was downloading big files.
I'll also load up a project with Audio and see whats up with those tools. So far I only loaded a midi file.

You basically get the core version of Sonar Platinum DAW that will integrate with one of the 3 specific versions of Gibson's Sonar.
If you were an owner of Platinum all of your plugins and add ons would be able to scan into the new CbL version. The Daw engine is identical to the Platinum engine. Like wise if you were an owner of "Artist" then all the "Artist" ad ons would be able to scan into the new CbL version. I was a SPLAT owner and I have been able to set up everything [unless I'm forgetting something], just like I had before under the new Cakewalk by BandLab.
Of coarse if you never owned one of those versions you basically get a highly respectable award winning Pro level Digital Audio Workstation. . . for free. Plus you get BandLab!
Welcome to the Bands of Bakers and Labbers.
