  • Instruction on install of CbB? As suspected- they turned it in to Freeware.

Hey there

I dont see any discussion about installation of Cakewalk by Bandlab. Will the Command Center be used? Do we just install Cakewalk again besides the Sonar? Any issues with it?

Let me clarify: so Cakewalk is Freeware for everybody to download without limits? Will there be paid version? Not that I want to pay for it but this makes it unprofessional if anybody in the world can get it for free. So- yes, I like to pay and have exclusive features for paid clients. I cant take freeware seriously. Can you?

For example, do we pay to use Facebook ?
Bandlab is going with the new business model.
They give it away, the tricky part of the programming is done already anyways ? Now bought by Bandlab.
Now the base program is free, and eventually you can decide to buy into the add-ons, if you want, or not.
So, Cakewalk Platinum is now free to download and install for anyone, through the "Bandlab Assistant"
You just have to join Bandlab, using your same email and username. It's free, no catches, just free.

It's not an update, it's an upgrade . . . so you'll have to migrate any custom templates, settings etc . . . to the new folders.

Just because CbB is free does not make it a less or unprofessional DAW software.  Do bells and whistles make SONAR Platinum professional?

Why do we need the same e-mail? My understanding- it is free for everyone, not just those that paid for it.

I do get it- it is another company, but still. I paid for it since Sonar 4, about $120 a year, so it is over $1000. Now anyone in the world can have the same product- how is it fair?

So, ok- life is not fair. But who would take it seriously and use it for any professional production? If you were a band and there were 2 studios- one used Protools that cost $600 for just software and other- that was using Cakewalk freeware- what studio would you want to use if you had to pay for sessions hourly?

I kind of find it interesting- the ability to have networking element and record long distance. However- freeware is a buzz killer. To me- paying for the software is what supposed to (did not work with Gibson) assure future development and obligate the developer to resolve the bugs and keep up with future OS updates. How can we expect accountability if it is freeware? We cant say, "We paid for it- you must deliver!" If it turns in to entry level bloatware that beginners install, play with for a while and then abandon for professional software, all pro users will abandon it but BandLab will still have immature users that will use it just for fun. And why would you compare it to Facebook? There is nothing professional about Facebook. I would not use Facebook to produce music.

What do you call "Bells and whistles"? Just curious. Giving it away for free does makes it less professional. Professional means exclusive for Pros. If anyone gets to use it, what makes my studio professional? Most trades required to get license to provide services. When you go to doctor, you expect this doctor to have degree and license, right? What makes software professional- exclusive access granted to those that willing to pay for it to become privileged exclusive users. I had an asset, not I have nothing because I use Freeware!

So the server got overloaded soon as I expressed opinion that turning Cakewalk in to Freeware makes it unprofessional. That is a lot of censoring! Bad start! I thought BandLab would be interested in earning our trust and will be open-minded platform that promotes diversity.

Quit massing with freedom of speech! Moderators- too much human interference! No need for censoring. Let it be automated- machines know better. I trust artificial intelligence more- it is not biased.
