Hi Vlada,
My REAL Job is as an Architect. ( Not I.T but real Architect - buildings)
In this role, I have to admit.......I have never been asked by a client "Do you pay for your CAD software"?
Clients are attracted by professional skill, reputation & results ............not by the tools I use.
In corporate / govt. interactions, the main thing I must watch is that the drawing files are compatible with key CAD players esp.
Autocad . This ensures relatively seamless distribution among project stakeholders.
For DAWs, I believe /expect that
ProTools , in respect to pro studio sharing, would be the yardstick in this regard,
( Rightly or Wrongly) .
However, Quality Assurance guarantees should mostly be concerned with performance outcomes.
Vlada,
Your query also Begs the question 'When does a DAW become
'UNPROFESSIONAL' ?
- When It Is Not Pro Tools?
- When It Costs Less Than ( Please fill In The Blank) $.................?
- When It Costs Less Than Reaper , MixBus OR Samplitude (ie: During one of their Magnificent Sales) ?
- When It Is Free ( such as Cakewalk by Bandlab )
We all have concerns about things being offered for free.It looks 'Dodgy','Cheap' etc
(ie: "Nothing Comes For Free...check the fine print again" !!!)
and such concerns are truly warranted.
However Vlada , If I May..........Please consider the following:
- The World Is Truly Changing ....and Very Rapidly. Generation X,Y,Z and now A2........look at this world in a radically different light to that of many of us who have untold 'years of wisdom under the belt' so to speak. ENTER - Meng Ru Kuok - 30 Years old - Who Is in a marvelously, tactful position to Feel, Empathize and Appropriately respond to the needs of the upcoming ( HIS) generations. Additionally, His Vision and Enthusiasm will likely ensure that the DAW we all know and love will live on,develop and (May I Suggest) completely overwhelm the DAW market. His vision , I truly believe, will be the 'NORM' by 2020.
- I Suggest, By 2025 , Payment for Service will be very different to that we currently /generally endorse. Free operational software will be 'Expected' as part of your service. (ie: In 2020 ..... "Everyone else is providing the core software for free...............why should I pay you for this core software" ?)
- By 2025 , I expect, (respectfully) few will be paying for any form of core software. It will be broadly considered a naturally, shared resource in which the providers/maintainers of such core software can harvest additional rewards, by provision of beneficial Add-Ons.
Just My Nostaldamus ;)
Best Regards........Frank in OZ
