Anderton,

They removed the option in Prefs>Colors for "Audio Track #1 Clip Background...." (midi as well).

why?

With the X-series, you can use the Inspector to change the background of all clips in a track, as well as change the background colors for individual clips in a track - they don't have to be all the same color.

how is that an IMPROVEMENT?

I didn't say it was an improvement, I said it was a design decision. It may be too complex to have options to change each clip individually and have a "global" change, because then you have to set up rules about which one will overwrite the other.

Personally, not having a global track background color option has not impacted my workflow at all when creating music. I use the defaults unless I need to change something; I don't want to take the time to mess with the colors, and the defaults work for me. When they don't, I can change them.

Again, if you want extensive customization options, use Duckbar.

It's something that was working perfectly in X1.  They had the inspector option AND the prefs>color option for clip backgrounds.

I made a post a while ago with a link to all of the color files pulled from X1-X3 in it. You can save a color set in X1 and pull it into Plat to get the defaults (X3/Plat do recognize them, you just cannot alter in prefs).

Then make a feature request and see if it's as important to others as it is to you. If so, maybe it can be restored but there may be code details happening behind the scenes...like whether the track colorization options that were added to the track view and console have an impact. Obviously it's easier to leave something in than take it out, so I presume there was a reason for doing so.

Sure, and I understand that.  There might be a good reason, but I hope its not to "make it simpler".

I'd forgotten about that post of yours. Pretty clever

Actually logged into the computer to find that post. http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3192357

@alewgro, if you have modified X1/X2 to your liking globally, you can save your color preferences from that and load them into X3/Platinum. The ones in the post above are the "defaults" only, IIRC.

Thanks for the help! I came up with a solution that helps me on the eyes :)
