Hi all,
I'm trying to simply drag and drop MIDI from BFD3 into Sonar Platinum's PRV as shown at 1:09 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ50DumaABA , but it doesn't seem to allow this.  Can someone confirm if I'm doing something wrong or if this functionality is not supported in Sonar?

Actually, I can't even import the saved BFD3 MIDI drum track into Sonar Plat as well.  I must be missing something obvious - I've imported MIDI before (not BFD3 midi though) and never had this issue.    Someone please confirm it's essentially just right clicking on the MIDI track, clicking import MIDI and selecting the MIDI file, right?  When I do that, nothing shows up in the MIDI track.

I just tried your steps for importing, and it worked so I don't know what the problem is.
 
As to drag-and-drop, if you run SONAR as Administrator, there's a Windows issue where you can't drag from outside SONAR (e.g., the desktop) into SONAR. I recommend using SONAR's browser to drag files into SONAR. 

Thanks!!  Yes, I just figured out what I was doing wrong with the basic MIDI import - it was a complete blonde moment - I had the 'now time' of my song set further, so the import was actually working, it was just importing several minutes further down the song than I wanted - so I didn't see it. 
 
Regarding drag and drop - I was tryin to drag from BFD3, running as a plugin within Sonar, into the PRV - but I guess the issue you specify applies, since the plugin isn't within the core Sonar domain.  I'll try sourcing the BFD3 groove files using Sonar's browser and see if that resolves it - since my immediate issue is resolved - I'll try that another day.  Thanks!
 
 

If you're trying to drag the entire palette straight in sonar's midi track you can't do it, you can only drag individual grooves in one at a time.
 
However, to drag the entire palette in a midi track, load the palette in BFD3, then select all the grooves on the right hand side by click the top (or bottom groove) then using the Ctrl/Shift keys select the bottom (or top) groove so all grooves are highlighted blue.
 
Then drag the grooves into the BFD3 drum track at the bottom of the groove edit page, from the drum track you can then drag the whole palette as one into sonar's midi track.

The BFD3 grooves are stored as palette files and are proprietary so you won't find them as separate midi files.
I'm pretty sure the only way to do it is the way I've described above which is pretty easy.
 
Palettes are a collection of grooves that are like a song.

Thanks Steve - it's interesting and the video is very helpful.  I was just trying to drag individual BFD3 grooves into Sonar Plat, not entire palettes.  In your video, it looks like you can do it (although you're dragging multiple grooves at the same time), but that doesn't work for me.  I wonder if it has to do with the version of Windows, as Craig outlines above, or if it's a difference between you running Sonar 8.5 and Sonar Platinum?

If you look again you'll see that I'm dragging multiple grooves into the BFD3 drum track.
Doing this converts them into midi, from the drum track I can then drag all grooves as one, into the sonar midi track.
You'll note I get a notice about "un-mapped articulations". You can either map them afterward dragging them or make sure they are all mapped before dragging the midi into sonar.

Nope, just did the same in platinum and it works just the same.
