I am really digging the DNA ability in the Editor edition.  Can i upgrade the one included with Sonar which is kind of like a "lite" version?   Also, if I can, when Cakewalk pushes updates, will it revert my Melodyne install back to the "lite" version Cakewalk gives?

Thank you,
Adam

Yes, Celemony offers an upgrade from Essential to Editor. It occasionally goes on sale and resellers may have a better price than the vendor. Melodyne has its own update process direct from Celemony which should be the only way you update Melodyne. I would expect if you elect to download Melodyne from Cakewalk again, it would overwrite the upgraded license. You have to kick off the Cakewalk update process and pull the packages to install/update so reinstalling Melodyne would only happen on demand.

Cool, yea I see they are offering Sonar users about 50% off the price of Editor, so I am buying it right now!   I understand about what you are saying, to not install the Melodyne updates, but then I will be stuck into an old version forever?

No, updates to Melodyne will come directly from Celemony. Cakewalk does not update Melodyne, they just bundle the current version of Essential. After you install the bundled Melodyne, updates come directly from Celemony. When Celemony creates a paid upgrade to a new version, you will have a decision to make. Just like uses who owned Editor v1 and received a copy of Essential v2 with SONAR.

Enjoy!   Editor is a great piece of software, and DNA is (or can be) a really, really cool technique with lots of potential purposes.

I will be totally honest... im not a great acoustic guitar player... but i want some gentle rhythm stuff in my songs, i don't know all the chords.. this makes it easier for me to get what i want out of my acoustic guitar tracks!

As long as you have fairly clean (and dry) recordings, yup, you should be able to drag around individual notes from chords without any over-the-top artifacts.   True 21st century audio technology IMHO.

It has been said by a baker or two that a SONAR install is Melodyne version aware and will not overwrite an Editor with Essential.

My understanding is that Essential and Editor is one and the same binary, it is just the license that determines which mode it goes into. Which means that if you just installed Sonar Platinum but not Editor, and then enter the Editor license, it will just switch to the Editor version. So whether you update it afterwards via C3 or from the Celemony website, you will really be updating the same thing.

At least this is what I understand, and also this has been my experience so far since I never installed Editor explicitly on my new system, yet it is showing up as the Editor version.
