Hi!

Can I use symbolic links or hard links on win 7 and win 8 to ...
  1. move sample content installed on C: to sample drive E:
  2. use a Sonar playlist & projects set up for C: drive on a backup machine where projects are copied to E: (i.e. can a symbolic link to a directory circumnavigate the problem that the entire playlist has to be recreated because projects are now located in a different directory??)
Which link do I have to use (symbolic / hard / directory junction) ... assuming that "mklink" is the proper way to set that up?

Any disadvantages doing this??

Many thanks in advance.

I have had no problems relocating parts of Cakewalk using directory junctions on win7. I do not use playlists but would expect they would resolve directory junctions too. I doubt symbolic links would work.

I just introduced a directory junction to "E:\Cakewalk Projects" on C: and copied my projects and playlists from the mobile DAW (which uses "C:\Cakewalk Projects") and all works fine (incl. playlist) ... another time saver :-)

I've now made directory junctions for every one of the default Cakewalk locations and put the files where I want them. That even includes VST2s. It allows Cakewalk to use its own locations which is always Program Files/Cakewalk/ VSTPlugins/ to be directed to my default VSTPlugins folder.

Very slick and I'm glad Steve C put me on to links.
