I have just done a little test here on my primary DAW which has X3e and Platinum(Cambridge) installed.

Addictive drums 2 was installed as part of the Platinum package via the XLN installer, consequently the licence I hold is linked to SONAR.

It seems to work OK I tested it in X3e with the three kits I download and the supplied beats.  Also tested the standalone version all appears to be working fine.

You did register the product in the installer?

It seems that the OP does not have Platinum, so his install would have followed the separate instructions that came with X3, and something in all of that seems to have either not been done or perhaps failed, or something else is interfering with it, but we cannot offer solutions that involve releases he does not have.  :)

I am still digging - and chewing - having a quick bite as I was up literally all night working on 3 different computers (not for Sonar stuff, just reloading or otherwise repairing, getting rid of viruses and crapware, etc).  Soon as I finish chewing, I will be back to looking into the Addictive Drums stuff.  Oh crap - my neglected cat has collapsed in a heap on my chest, purring.  :)

If his standalone doesn't work, must be a XLN problem, not Cakewalk...

Yes
There is no linkage between SONAR and any XLN product. Cakewalk just supplies product codes for full retail versions of AD2 which will work in any VST host. This is an AD2 installation issue. If the links in msg 12 do not help, I would recommend contacting XLN support.

AD2 is an XLN product, and if it does not run in standalone mode, then something is amiss with the installation. It is not linked to X3 at all, actually. It can be used in any DAW.

@musicaz - if you are running this in stand-alone mode with ASIO as the driver mode, is FL-Studio or any other music app also running by chance?

I was just wondering if you were trying to get the output of Addictive Drums to feed into FL Studio and have them both separately fighting over your audio interface.

Also, since from someone's post above, it looks like Addictive Drums can run outside of Sonar, have you tried including it as a plugin directly in FL Studio?  (just curious, because if it is indeed not tied to Sonar, than you should be able to do this).

I am still looking at possibilities, even though it looks like an Addictive Drums issue, and not a Sonar issue at this point.
