That upgrade didn't go too smoothly me (not as smooth as it was with Win 10 was). I got an error (no display.....just a black screen) with Intel's onboard HD graphics driver (an issue others were having as well). However, I switched to using my dedicated graphics card (HIS IceQ 7870) and everything worked out.
 
Other than that,  the upgrade was a nice improvement over Win 8.
 

Well, thankfully,  my 8.1 upgrade went pretty smoothly, although I didn't test any software... I'm now diving straight into W10.........

Do you need to or should you update all your hardware drivers to 8.1 first?
Then, Win 10 will automatically embrace it. :)

This is so exciting Synkro......like awaiting the birth of a new baby (in tech land of course).

Interestingly, I checked (after Win 10 installation) for any drivers needing updates and lo and behold....everything was up to date!!
 
Of note, I used this little tool to update the software I used regularly in Win 8.1 before going to Win 10. A fantastic little tool: https://ninite.com/

I'm in SPlat now, playing my latest project and everything seems fine... My QUAD-CAPTURE is working... I've not found anything yet that I need to re-activate or re-authorise... Yet!

I too looked to see if anything was missing that would interfere with my DAW, but everything (so far) seems to be good.
 
I'm very happy with Win 10 and the painless upgrade.
