Here's a lovely one for the folkies - Dick Gaughan singing The Banks Of Green Willow, which is as far as I know either an English or a Scottish folk song. I love his Scottish folk style of ornamentation in the vocal, it's quite beautiful, and the guitar is very nice as well. In fact I wonder how much of the modern black R&B style of singing has its roots in Scotland. It's already been established that
gospel singing originated from Scotland, but when I hear the ornamentation traditional Scottish singers like Dick Gaughan I can't help but compare it to the kind of fancy vocal ornamentation you hear in modern R&B and soul music too.
