The Windows 10 driver hack works fine. It's a bit of a hassle to install but not as difficult as I thought it would be. There's a whole sticky thread about how to do it.
I haven't been using my VS-700 rack unit anymore. I originally replaced it because of the driver issues, but when I finally had that noisy fan out of my studio...I couldn't go back. I
really missed the built-in Fantom, though, so I replaced it with a rack mounted Fantom XR. It's basically the exact same synth. It's a bit older now but still sounds fantastic. I don't hate having an actual front panel for it, either, although I miss the integrated VST.
I still use and love the VS-700 console. It remains by far the best control surface available for Cakewalk. It doesn't work so great with other DAWs (although it does work), but for Cakewalk it's awesome.
I'm hanging onto the whole system for now. Even though I'm not currently using the rack, it's still my favorite interface. If it wasn't for the fan noise, I'd still be using it. I may yet use it for certain projects, like mobile recording to laptop. It's a shame it doesn't work with an iPad!
