That being said, why not just try out different positions with the Eridol and see how it sounds? Is it threaded to mount on a boom?

Unfortunately the Edirol R9 is an older model of digital recorder and doesn't have a thread. I usually use it by placing it in a flat surface.
the piano is arriving after Christmas, so I'll play about with placements and let you know how i get on.
