I've never found beer (or other alcohol) to be any use for pain relief, the dehydration it causes seems to make it worse.
I agree about the dehydration factor of most alcohol exacerbating pain issues. I've never really been into hard liquor although I do enjoy a nice snootful of scotch or whiskey on occasion... but yeah, I haven't bothered for a looong time because it really does seem to make things worse. Wine seems to be beneficial in small amounts but then not so much.
With beer, if I'm really ganked out, I can just plaster myself and although I'll feel like crap the next day from the hangover my back and leg are loosened up a bit better. Do that for too long though and shnizz starts gettin' dark and very problematic.
There is now science stating that 2 beers has the same analgesic(?) effect that gobbling some ibuprofen does. Beyond that point it's inconsistent.
Also I drink a lot of water in the morning and before bed and after I'm done with my beers I switch to watered down cranberry juice with a splash of red wine in it just for taste. So maybe I'm hydrated enough to counter the beer but not for harder booze.
Either way I've only suffered 2 severe physical addictions in my life. Nicotine and beer. I had been getting both very much under control until I lost my docs so I'd like to get back on that path again.
To quote Lethal Weapon dood... I'm gettin' too old for this [REDACTED].
