Just trying to start a fan war because apparently I can.

Jodie Whittaker... the first female Who... Yay or Nay?

The first episode of this series, thumbup or thumbdown?

Any other thoughts?

(Purposely withholding my opinion until I see where this goes; I will side with the victor)

I ain't caught up (been a few years I think). Mayhaps I'll reboot the reboot after I'm finished goin' through my current binge (re)watch.

It was still the old skinny Scot when I left off so I'm guessing I've missed a lot.

He regenerated into a lady, this week was the first episode of his time as a hottie.

I thought that was supposed to happen a couple years ago. Has there been a long hiatus or sumthin'?

Very long hiatus.  Too long.  I guess to make us glad for ANY gender of Who, just to have it again. lol

A yes so far, for me. It seemed perfectly natural that the Doctor was a woman.

The plot was a bit lightweight and not without a few holes, but still enjoyable and as much about introducing the new characters. The villain of the week, Tim Shaw , was fun but never really that scary.

I really don't buy Mandip Gill (30) and Tosin Cole (26) as a couple of 19 year olds, but then again this is a series about a time-travelling alien. Bradley Walsh was nowhere near as awful as I was expecting.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Especially as they are doing away with those over convoluted season-long story arcs, where you supposed to have been  paying attention to previous episodes.

I just hope the sonic screwdriver she made herself doesn't turn it to a magic wand, like it had done under Steven Moffat's control.

I've got a couple of years' worth of the twelfth Doctor to catch up on. I gave up at the episode before they killed off Clara.

Meh. Haven't watched it for a long time, but did on Saturday. Thought JW was trying way too hard, all shouty and manic like she'd had eleven cups of coffee. The plot was basically Predator on a crane. No more of that for me thanks.

So I will chime in with my thoughts now.... (others are of course welcome to keep adding their two pence)

Originally, I was not happy with the decision to have a female Doctor. I'm by no means anti-women, but like so many others, I felt that the Doctor is a male role. But I did see the writing on the wall when The Master turned into a woman, and one of the Time Lords did the same later on. So what can ya do?

I have an open mind, though, and watched the new series opener accordingly.

To my surprise I was impressed and taken right from the start. There wasn't one second that I thought "but he's a she!" Jodie played the part so Doctor-like, that I didn't see gender at all. That being said, Jodie is an excellent actress, so it's no surprise that she gave the role a good start. Being her first time out, and first time for the new writers, I didn't watch with a very critical eye. I simply basked in the fact that we finally had some new Who! It's been an extra long break between series.

I saw a few weak parts in the script, and a couple moments where a couple of the actors didn't shine well, but for the most part it was an entertaining hour in good ol' Who fashion. The next few episodes will speak more about the quality of the show and where it's heading.

And one more thing...

OMG they killed Grandma! Those b*stards!!
