  • Still investigating - clip envelopes play but don't export?

I've redone this a dozen times in different ways, and it seems as tho a clip volume envelope sounds fine during playback, but doesn't happen when I do a file export... Still checking for my own possible errors but....

Anyone else find anything like this?

Keni, I assume you DO have 'clip automation' checked in the export dialog yes?

I've had something similar happen with the mod wheel. The automation works, but not correctly.

Ditto.

X2a fixed some problems I had with Automation not working during export.

Are you on X2a?

Thanks Everyone...

Bristol... Yup... all are enabled...
stoutlyric... Yup.. X2a here as well...

I did a volume edit for a phrase where a person spoke off-mike for a moment and lost presence. when I play it in Sonar it sounds improved. when I listen to the file export (as 24/48 then mastered & dithered to 16/44.1), it sounds as though nothing has changed and the voice still drops away... My client observed this as well... I was using the clip gain as I wanted to raise the volume into the compressor, not after...

I thought I remembered reading that others had experienced this, but this is the first time I've had it happen to me (or did I not notice before? ;-))

I did quick test when I saw your post and it seemed to work fine. If all else fails, you can automate the track's input gain instead.

Thanks brundlefly...

I thought of that but there doesn't seem to be an entry for it in the beloved Edit Filter.... I looked a few times thinking I must have overlooked it...

...and BTW, I've used clip automation before and it worked fine.... This is my first instance of it not working as expected and I'm still searching to see if there's something I did "wrong"... ;-)

An FX Chain can be used as an automated input gain.

I would try freezing the track where the clip gain appears not to export properly.

Oops. My mistake. You're right. I guess that makes sense, since input gain on an audio track is really happening at the clip level so that's where they put it.

I was thinking to route the track to a dedicated bus where you can automate input gain, but I like scook's FX Chain solution much better.

I realize you want to solve the mystery as much as the problem, but that's a good workaround for the time being.
