Hi guys,

So I want to try this out in Platinum. When I install I have a choice of 3 deals of 3 Adpaks, Midipaks and Kitpieces.

First question - which do I choose and what if I don't like them? Is it a one-time choice? Any demos around?

Also, generally, are they good? I have EZDrummer and lots of EZX and Superior Drummer plus Stylus RMX and Komplete Ultimate - do I need Addictive Drums?

Do they work with easily selectable midi grooves like EZD?

Thanks in advance!

You can demo all of XLN's stuff directly from within the AD2 plugin before purchasing.

I think AD2 is very good, and integrates very well with Roland vDrums.

I don't have EZ or Superior, so cannot comment on those.

You'll need to create a drum map to map EZD MIDI grooves to the "notes" that AD2 expects.  Unfortunately, EZD and AD2 use different note values for almost every kit piece.  But once you create the map, the EZD stuff works fine in AD2.

There is an EZD map inside AD2, isn't there?

There appears to have been an EZD map for Additive Drums 1.  A google search actually brings you to a cakewalk forum post that links to XLN's forum.  However, XLN took their forum down a while ago.  A was just using AD2, and didn't see an EZD preset in the map window.  So it might be that a SONAR drum map is the solution.

If there is an EZD that comes with AD2, someone please point me to it.

I don't think AD2 has a specific EZD map.

However, the EZD manual indicates that it's GM compatible for notes 35-60.  There are 4x exceptions in this range: 39(clap), 54(tambourine), 58(vibraslap), 60(bongo).

So, I would suggest selecting the GM map in AD2 and then making a few tweaks as required, then saving the result as an EZD map.

When you install AD2, it automagically installs some basic kits as part of the install (which are great kits to start with). You can then demo the other kits from within AD and make a decision on which kits you'd like as the 3 extra ones.

Thanks for the replies guys and the tips about EZD maps if the AD drums sound better.

Thanks rebel007, managed to install the full application which appears to be the Fairfax Kit Vol 1 Demo with 3 out of 31 presets plus a selection of beats from all of the MidiPaks. Not sure if the full Fairfax has a more complete set of Midi grooves - it appears not as they recommend the American Rock midipack?

I'm assuming the Adpack grooves are comprehensive enough with variations and fills?

I like the sound of the drums and the grooves so far. I'm an organic Pop/Rock (all eras), Country and Jazz kind of guy, so I don't know if anyone has any particular recommendations of 3 Adpacks to get? Too much choice!

Cheers

...right, so the Adpacks don't actually come with grooves, unlike EZD?

I don't own many other than the stock ones.

I've bought the metal pack because, well... \m/ ...and the session percussion pack because the advert was just so damn cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSzf2TSLDX8
