Hey there
There supposed to be this new function in Sonar Platinum- vocal sync. I look for it under the effects and I don't see it. Can anybody point me toward it? And if you know about good help article or tutorial, please, post it.

So let's say I have 2 vocal tracks? Do I insert this thing on both tracks and hope they align? How do I insert it? Any help will be appreciated as I don't even see it. Thanks.

First of all, VocalSync is Platinum only. It's a region FX, so you'll open it the same way you open Melodyne (and V-Vocal, if it's still installed on your system). Four things to remember:

  • VocalSync is optimized for vocals. I haven't had much success aligning non-vocal instruments, like bass to kick or whatever.
  • You need to specify a guide track, which the VocalSync track references for its alignment.
  • The preview mode is lo-fi. After alignment, you need to render the clip by bouncing it to itself (like you do with AudioSnap).
  • Turning up the dial all the way doesn't necessarily mean tightest alignment. The "sweet spot" can occur anywhere along the dial - it depends on the material. The graphic interface is very helpful in this respect.

Thank you for your reply. I see it now. So I selected a vocal track (just one, right? Or two?) and it has only one option, "Create Region FX". Is it what I supposed to do? And then what? Also- do I leave the effects chain on the channel on or turn it off? Is it affects the Vocal Sync? Thank you.

Thank you for the video. I did it, but... Looks like in the video they have no effects and each track is panned about 60% left and right. So I guess I have to pan tracks first. Also when I select whole track it looks bright (different from the video).

So I panned them all the way left and right 100% (because it sounded better). I did the sync procedure and one of two tracks looks half green half gray which implies that they are 2 tracks in one. So to playback- do I listen that track only and mute the 2nd track? The issue is that if I listen that new 2 colors track only, it panned to one ear. If I unmute the 2nd track (the one it was set to align to), then it sounds left and right but I am not sure if this is how it supposed to be. I thought that after I sync, I should have 2 tracks in one and I would be able to put effects on that one track. Or would I still need to work with 2 tracks? Thank you.

Vocal sync aligns the audio from one track termed the "dub track", using the timing info (onsets) present in another track termed the "guide track". There are always two separate tracks you are dealing with. The "hybrid UI" dual waveforms are shown on the vocalsync region only for the purpose of allowing you to visually align the data.
The audio is still the dub track audio but aligned in time using the onsets from the guide track.

How you use it is completely up to the application. You might want to align one track to another and then discard the guide track, or you might want to use it for double tracking. There are no rules to how you use it.

Thank you, Noel. I got some promising result. But should I pan the tracks left and right before I align (sync) them or keep them centered. And do I do it before I apply effects or after? Thank you.

They don't need to be panned beforehand, I think the video was doing that so you could hear the separation more clearly.  And all region fx happen pre-fx in the signal flow.
I would disable fx on the track while you're using vocal sync, because it might obscure the results.

+1. And VocalSync wants to work with the raw vocal tracks because that way they'll at least be timbrally consistent.
