  • Comp Recording Mode to use comping tools? (p.2)

Yeah, I was referring to the Shift Space thing. I've started promoting clips with playback stopped by clicking with the Comp Tool in the lower part of the clip instead. It's just more natural to me and chokes the system less. The unfortunate side effect of that is that it resets the Now Time to wherever you clicked so it has to be reset but I intend to figure out a way around that. The other way to promote is to select the clip and press enter but in Platinum that seems to close the lanes which is annoying. It doesn't reset the Now Time though. Again there's probably a way around that I have yet to figure out or maybe it's a bug (not sure why anyone would wnat lanes to close automatically like that while comping... it's weird).

The Speed Comp mode (which I'm now remembering is the proper term... I think) is still really cool but you really gotta get into the mindset of it, and of course it tends to cause dropouts and other annoyances which kind of defeats the whole "Speed" part. I think it will work much better once I set my HDDs up properly (currently everything is on C... so it's reading program stuff AND project/audio data fromt he same disk... which isn't ideal).

This is now 'Sort Of' solved.  I'm spending more time using the new comping tools and am getting better at making them do what I want.  I haven't had a lock up in a while now so that's good.  I'm not sure what I'm doing different.  Thanks to the Beepster for his help!

I still have a strange issue with the Inspector.  It just randomly opens as I'm editing.  I'm not able, (so far), to duplicated it at will but it occurs while I'm editing with the comping tools.

Another strange thing occurred today.  I finished comping a vocal track.  As I scrolled back through the song I noticed that all the selected clips from the middle section of song were now muted!  The first part of the song was fine and the last part of the song as well.  The middle section, gone!  Did I hit a shortcut key?  Should I be "promoting" these clips?  I haven't tried that.  Does it "lock" the selected clips?

Has anyone seen these?  Any thoughts appreciated.  Thanks

You don't have to have used comp record mode to use the comping tools but to get the best from it  you do need to start from a state that comp record mode automatically  leaves the lanes and clips in. That is all clips in all but one lane muted. Note that is the clips muted not the lanes.

Only one lane should contain unmuted clips. From that position you are good to go for comping in either speed comping or manual mode.

Thanks Karl.  I'm slowly figuring out the best method for my workflow.  I now have my templates set up with Comp Record as the default so that will help on future projects.

I'd still like to know more about the two issues mentioned in my previous post.
