Hi Gerry-

The link works for me in Firefox 37.0.1. The page can be found by going to the SONAR help index, search for "recording modes" and select a link under the subject

The link is okay here in Chrome Version 41.0.2272 as well. There's no text on the buttons themselves. The mode is indicated by the red line (new recording) in relation to the solid or wavy gray lines (existing material.)

Not bad. At least now I can tell if it's overwrite I see one line and sound on sound I see 2 lines. This is far better than what I thought we had. Maybe one day they'll give us real displays of sound on sound, overwrite, and comping, but this is workable.

I edited my post while others were apparently writing. I see the difference but it's very subtle and I find it hard to see..

This is strange. I get email notifications when someone posts on my thread. If I click on your hyperlink from my email, I get "page not found". yet if I go to the forum and click on your actual link, it works fine. I copied and pasted both links to look at them together and see no difference. Another weird mystery.

Glad it's workable for you!

It's very subtle for sure. Fortunately for me I never use comping and now I can tell the difference between sound on sound and overwrite, so this is a very good help for me.

I made a mention of something similar here:

Excellent post! I agree with all you said. I miss the customization from the old days. It seemed to me when they embarked on this less clutter approach, they could have had the default install very uncluttered, but retained the customization for long time users that have preferred to choose their own level of so called clutter.

My 8.5 is more streamlined than Platinum, because I only have things displayed that I use all the time, the other stuff is hidden from view. In fact I wish in Platinum we could choose what each module displays. I'd trim some things off some modules and then I'd have plenty of room for modules that I can't view without using those arrow buttons.

The custom module is a start, but it's so limited. It's only buttons, no displays, or meters. The S/M/L sized modules is a step in the right direction for sure.

I love to see your idea of the "show us the current state" module where you'd have icons that show what you've set up like scroll lock or pause key being pressed, auto crossfades, and of course sound on sound, overwrite, etc

Brilliant!

I have always simply hovered my mouse over the record button in the transport control, and it pops up a text box identifying what recording mode I am in.

Try it - I have HORRIBLE vision, but have no problem at all seeing the recording mode in the pop up text box.

Also, @gmp - try this - take the link from your email, and instead of clicking on it, paste it into a notepad text document, then copy it back to the clip board, then paste it into a browser and see if it works then.  I think that might work properly, but would like you to confirm that.  That would indicate some sort of character uni-code or whatever, problem - and could help identify the issue for Cakewalk to be able to address it.  THANKS :)

yes the text box works very good, but I like the record button method better. For Sound on sound I see 2 lines and for overwrite I see one line. That's all good enough for me and I don't have to mess with the mouse. So I'm good for now.

I selected the text in my email and pasted it into notepad, then selected it in notepad and pasted it into my browser and same weird result - page not found. Here's the exact text I pasted

http://www.cakewalk.com/D...help=Recording.11.html

Somehow the blue line just appeared, I pasted plain black text above and it turned blue and a line came underneath it.

If you go back to the original link the guy posted and instead of clicking on the hyperlink, select, copy and paste the link into the browser - it's say page not found. So something is embedded in the hyperlink with the blue link below it
