Until we have a real arranger try this little tip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=XTysXLBiYqY#t=3742s

The names are towns in Massachusetts, so you won't see Death Valley. I think they're okay until they hit X and Z...

My bet is on Dorchester..

Thanks, Brian. I do something very similar.

It would be cool if we could edit in the Navigator Pane or have a similar view for this type of editing. Like a time based grid with selectable columns (for time based selections across all tracks... set a resolution, click a column and copy/drag/cut/past/replace/etc). On the vertical be able to easily activate/select/deselect tracks that get snagged by the column selections and moves. Like clicking in the top left "cell" selects all tracks for editing. Drag down over the track numbers to select rows (or Shift Click) and Ctrl Click just to select specific tracks.

So...

1) Select the tracks you want included in your column selections by clicking buttons on the far left/vertical

2) Set a time based resolution that the columns will separate into (and have a separate option for time range selection like in the Time Ruler

3) Click a column button (running along the top of the grid) and drag it or cut it or copy it and have keyboard modifiers or a module to set replace/insert and move over/etc.

Not sure how other DAWs do this but to me that would be a great songwriting workflow. I'd use it all the time.

Matrix View, as interesting as it is, is not a suitable option for that type of quick arrangement work.

1. Marker Regions is what I'd call it.
2. Create markers and be able to name regions according those markers.
3. A list of the regions display in a special part of the browser.
4. Drag region names up and down defining the playing order of the regions.
5. Make multiple play of regions selectable.
6. If not all tracks are to be included then simply selecting multiple clips will restrict regions to only contain those tracks.

So kind of like a list? Like the MIDI Event List except using time regions? Heh. That's cool but very different workflow than how I think and view things. How about instead of having to goof around in the Clips Pane/Track Pane for each entry in the list you can right click and select/deselect tracks from each list entry?

I think these are two very different approaches... and we could have both. lol

I can see the advantages of both methods.

Yours is very Excel-like Beep, and seeing that's what i do for a living, appeals in a big way.

But Mike's idea is, I believe, even more elegant, but would need a bit of fleshing out.

This should be possible seeing as it's simply really just an extension of what we can already do, albeit with many more mouse clips.

Cubase has Play Order Track which lets one rearrange a song at will. Cubase SX 3 had it.
