  • SonarX3e: Apply the comping choices of one audio track to another?

Hi,

I have recorded two vocal tracks in comping mode. The two tracks are simultaneous recordings, each with a different mic. These two audio tracks have 5 takes each.

Sometimes I want to hear both. When I do, I only want to hear identical performances (identical except for the mic, that is.) So if, say, in Bar 1, I audition Track 1/Take 3, then in Bar 1, I want to hear Track 2/Take 3.

Ideally I'd like to "comp up" one of the vocal tracks and then magically have those choices applied to the second vocal track, so I can easily mix the different mic takes over time.  By "comping choices" I mean both how I've cut things into phrases, and which phrase I'm listening to at any given time. Is this possible?

At present, all I can think of is manually cutting each track into the same phrases, which is a pain, and then when auditioning, clicking each chosen phrase manually, which is clunky.

Any advice?

Separately -- does anyone habitually read the "Get Instant Notification" thread subscription Option as "Get Instant Gratification" ? I do.  It seems to make me click it that much faster, though in the end, I never get any. I keep doing it.

You can group the clips. Select both, the right click and find "group clips". You will have to do this for each set of takes. Edits (including comping) will then be synced.

Additionally, you can tell Sonar to always group clips of multi-track recordings, or to do it to tracks that are inside a track folder.

Saves a LOT of time if you set it up beforehand :)

Good luck! I meant to add - you make this setting in the record preferences.
