Hello,

I am trying to record multiple softsynth takes using loop recording.  I notice there is a checkmark for "mute previous takes" but thats only for Punch Recording.   I just want to LOOP record but NOT hear previous takes as they are confusing me as I play several takes. I don't want to have to enable PUNCH recording just to achieve this.

Thanks,
Adam

right click record button...check store takes in separate tracks and check overwrite mode.  I record this way all the time.

Oh wow cool thanks!  It works!   I thought OVERWRITE actually OVERWRITES and wouldn't save all the takes!   Thank you very much!!!

no prob. It does overwrite if you don't store in separate tracks....

Actually no it doesn't.   Im working within layers and it's working fine!   All my takes are now in ONE track, seperate layers and muting previous takes as I record new ones by doing what you said.   Hmmm

Thanks for bringing this up...

I've run into it a few times myself and wondered (tho I never looked) if there was a way to change that behvior.

It works fine for me most of the time as I have a habit of playing some parts built with multiple passes to accomodate my poor keyboard abilities! ;-)

I did thank you... I still wasn't sure.  I even have Sonar Power!

I was trying to use this yesterday while comping vocal parts. Used the overwrite approach with track layers and the downside is it's not possible to punchin on the fly within a layer. Also, when I rebuilt the layers it clumped them all into one layer hiding the other layers underneath. I then had to create new layers and then drag them into seperate ones. The on the fly punches were no where to be found! This behavior went away while using punch record. Curious!

I have the opposite question.  Whenever I do looped audio recording, I cannot hear the prior takes with each new iteration of the loop.  I want to be able to build up a layered synth part for example, so I actually need to hear the previously recorded takes while looping.  I've scoured the help docs as well as these forums but can't find an answer.  Anyone care to chime in?  Thanks.
