  • Screensets cause my floppy drive to click and light up - *SOLVED*!

I hope one of the Bakers / Staff can chime in here ...

When I change screensets (somewhat quickly) my floppy turns on and clicks.

I just put in a 1G Nvidia 9500GT video so I'll see if that stops the crashing I've been experiencing, but this floppy turning on worries me.

A few others users have reported it.

Can any CW'er shed some light on this please?

THanks.

What brand 9500 did you get?

Galaxy, PNY, true Nvidia?

EVGA ... it's an authorized NVidia card.   It's one I had as a spare here (actually for a client) and it's got all the stuff, so to speak.  Specs are decent too.

Although I'm still crashing with it anyway.   This is 1G, my previous card was only 256MB so I was hoping for better results.

But the clicking is totally weird - and as I said, I'm not the only one reporting it.

Btw it doesn't 'click' on every screenset change, just certain ones (like 4, 5, 6) and if I change sets quickly (though not like a machine gun, just more like scrolling through them) it happens more often.

I've used EVGA cards before. Seemed to run fine for me. Check for updated drivers from Nvidia for the 9500 chipset if you haven't already. I just updated mine and it fixed a lot of problems I was having with Win 7 Aero.

That floppy drive clicking is really weird. The last time I had a floppy drive installed in my PC it went bad and blew out my motherboard. I ripped it out and haven't used one since. That's been, oh heck, at least 5 ~ 6 years now.

Good luck with it. Sorry to hear about all the little bumps you're running in to. I still haven't received my boxed version of X1 yet from Sweetwater.

Are you pretty sure it's not related to the media browser (i.e., browser's open in the screensets where drive turns on)?

There was thread relating to Windows installing s floppy driver of some kind that may be causing this?

I don't use the floppy drive - but it works fine.   And I got the very latest drivers for the card tonight.

Ugh.  Sometimes things just don't go easy in this world :(

I went from a smooth running power user to a car stuck in mud LOL.

I've actually taken the time to setup my screensets the way I like as a normal template as well as in a few test projects.

I don't keep the browser open in any (yet) since it's just a "B" away.

I wish it was that, it would be an easy fix, so to speak.

I DO have another idea I'm trying now -- TBC.
