I just noticed this. What does it mean? Just curious.

This must only apply to newer versions.  I don't see it.

It means you're in Touch Mode.

Track Inspector > Track > Automation > Write Mode

The other options are Overwrite and Latch.

This has been in Sonar since, I think, X2 onwards.

Yes Colin has it.

X2 onwards has three different automation write modes. Touch, Latch & Overwrite. They relate to how existing automation envelopes are treated when writing (recording) automation.

Thanks guys. I never realized Sonar had these three types of automation. Cool..

and "Touch Mode" means what exactly?

Write Mode. This drop-down menu lets you choose the automation write mode:

Touch. Touch mode overwrites any existing automation data for the currently armed parameter only when
the parameter is moved with the mouse or a MIDI controller. Automation writing stops when the parameter
is released, and the parameter returns to any previously automated position.

Overwrite. Overwrite mode overwrites any existing automation data for the currently armed parameter
while the transport is rolling, even if you don’t touch the parameter.

Latch. Latch Mode is similar to Touch mode; new automation data overwrites existing automation data
when you move a control. However, when you release the parameter, it will remain “latched” into its current
position and continue to overwrite any existing automation data until playback stops.

When the write mode is enabled the automation will begin as soon as you touch and move the fader, pan knob etc. and stop automating when you release it and start automating again when you touch it.
