  • How do I record manual frequency sweeps in an effect or in a channel EQ?

I'm not sure what this process is actually called, so sorry if I'm asking a a question that has already been answered.
I have a soft synth playing and the LP 64 EQ loaded into the channel.
When I click a node and manually move it slowly with the mouse along the mid-range, I get a sweeping "Wah-Wah" sound.
How do I record this so that it plays back with the eq sweeping?
I have tried activating the Read and Write buttons in the effect but nothing seems to work.
I hope I am missing something obvious as it seems such a simple function.
Thanks in advance.

You will need to use automation.

Activating the Write button and moving the knob, then turning that off on playback and activating the Read button, should do the job. Assuming you're using a version with a ProChannel, you might consider using the ProChannel EQ (or the Sonitus). The LP-64 is more of a mastering effect that uses a lot of CPU power.

Thanks John, I had to have a refresher on automation and, as always, solid advice from Mr. Anderton!
I did as you suggested also in the Pro Channel (instead of the CPU hungry plug) but it wasn't working, then I realised that it doesn't record the automation if you move the node, only if you move the knob.
It is puzzling as to why this is, but it is still a great function to be able to edit the automation info in the automation lane.
I just read your article "7 Steps To Cleaning Up Your "ACT" With Hardware" Great stuff, but (of course!) it didn't work as I expected when I tried it! This is obviously something that I'm doing wrong and I will try again tomorrow.
Thanks again.

The Automation lane shows what is written it remains a static record of what has been written. You can make a change by editing the lane but to record a change over time you need to use the knobs for the different lanes of automation.

Well said.
