Yikes. That's a very unsatisfactory solution unless you're trying to use onboard PC sound system that doesn't have a native ASIO driver. If that's the case, you really need to get a dedicated audio interface to get the most out of SONAR. Most onboard systems at least support WDM driver mode and/or ASIO using with the 3rd-party ASIO4All wrapper. Anything is preferable to MME.

Ok brundlefly....; I have to agree with you.  I am nowhere near satisfied lol I have switched MME and that helped some, but the Latency is STILL there for the most part..Sonar said its a KNOWN ISSUE with Didgidesign.  so.......What Interface, at a reasonable cos,t should I buy? I am so disgusted.. I love the X3 Studio, but so tempted to go back to my Reaper......NO latency there lol I can switch back to ASIO, and don't have Latency, but I don't get to see the wave im recording, it doesn't move.  but I can listen to it back fine, just doesn't move lol

The type of interface you need depends ultimately on your needs.

How many simultaneous inputs do you need for tracking?

There are MANY, cost effective, stable interfaces out there, either USB or Firewire.

Also give us an idea of your budget - that helps enormously

actually wouldn't need anymore then foUr inputs. could get by with two. and will like to keep the price under $200

I knew you'd come around.

I Googled the Digi after your last post and saw that it didn't appear to have a viable ASIO driver for Win7.

would a Focusrite work well?

There are lot of Focusrite users on the forum so that's a good bet. I have a Roland Duo Capture EX for my laptop that I like. Not best-in-class low-latency capability, but a solid piece with good drivers from a reputable company.

I'm biased - because both of my systems use Focusrites - but they have never let me down. I have one from 2007 o my main system and it's never let me down (runs for cover)
