  • Why does moving one clip change the others on the same track?

Sonar X3e b352 on Windows 7 /32
I have a track with 5 audio clips, with gaps between them.
Nothing is selected (CTRL-SHIFT-A)
I click the first clip once to select it.
Using the Move tool, I drag the clip to the right slightly.
The clip moves, but the four other clips on the track also move (by much larger amounts)

Why? How do I move a single clip?

Don't know why. Cannot duplicate using these steps:
1) Create new project
2) Add an audio track
3) drag 5 clips into the track with spaces between the clips
4) CTRL-SHIFT-A
5) Select the leftmost clip
6) Switch to Move Tool
7) Move the selected clip to the right

Personally, I think it is easier click-dragging clips by the header using the Smart Tool rather than switching tools. I rarely switch from the Smart Tool. Also often use nudge (numeric keypad 1,3,4,6,7,9) when the move is a small amount on the same track.

I cannot reproduce this either. I've tried linking 2 clips but that only affects process changes, everything else like moving or changing size occurs independently.

Are the clips grouped? That would explain them all moving although not by different amounts.

I have tried this several times on new projects. There are different behaviors that occur, but in every case, when I select and move one clip, all the other clips on the track are affected in some way.
The other clips may 1) move 2) change their length or 3) become duplicated

I have not done any grouping of clips. I selected "remove selected clips from groups" from the right-click clip context menu just in case, and it does not change the behavior.

Here's a screen capture video of the problem. This time it duplicated the other clips.

Given that this is reproducible (for me) even when creating a new project, is there any global setting that can affect clip movement like this?

Have a look at your drag & drop options. I suspect you might have "Slide over to make room" checked. They are in Track View Menu--->Options--->Drag & Drop Options.

Can't view your vid for some reason.

I downloaded the video and watched it. It looks like there's something seriously screwed up, the graphics indicate duplicate clips, strange movings, etc. Maybe that's from whatever is making the AVI?

In any event, check FastBikerBoys suggestion as that the only thing I can think of. But if that AVI is representative of what's going on and it's more than just clips moving but also generation of ghost clips and such, there's more to the problem than that. Having you updated graphics card drivers lately? Sonar makes pretty extensive use of graphics capabilities.

This is it. I can repro the video with this setting

Repeated drag and drop also results in quite a few track lanes

Yep. I've just managed to view the video, and I can too.

I think a bug may have been discovered. It looks like it's creating a duplicate and sliding that leaving the original where it is, hence the mess.
