  • Unable to register DLL/OCX - x1 Essential install problem

Hello to everyone!

This is my first post on this forum.
The threads were really helpful for me in the past.

I've been using x1 on my desktop for about 6 months and all's been good.

But now I'd like to use it if possible (on the move) on my wee samsung n150 netbook
win 7 ultimate sp1 - 2gb ram - intel atom n450 1.6GHz
(I saw x1 running reasonably well on a netbook with the same cpu)

In any event, I don't know yet how well the program performs on this computer cos the problem is with the install...

Setup goes well til the very end.
Then the installer is unable to register a bunch of files (.dll and .ax binaries)

The errors all read:
"Unable to register DLL/OCX: regsvr32 failed exit code 0x3"

By selecting IGNORE rather than ABORT i've made a list of the 31 files that won't register.
I thought it might be a bit long to print all 31 here?

Here's the first few:

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk...

...\Shared Surfaces\VS700.dll

...\SONAR X1 Essential\Stretch.ax

...\Shared DXi\Groove Player\GroovePlayer.dll

...\Shared Plugins\DeWire.dll

...\Shared Utilities\cw90auto.dll

...\Shared Utilities\NullProxy.dll

Any help will be hugely appreciated!
Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum.
Is the netbook running a 64-bit OS?
DX won't work in 64-bit, which might be why they fail to be registered.
If that's the case, try loading the 32-bit version of X1.

Hey 57Gregy, thanks for your response.

It's a 32 bit Windows 7 OS.  and it's a recent OS install (about one month)

Could it be other software causing the issue?
Haven't got any other large applications on the computer.

Here's the full log I made of the Unable to register files
All 31 files listed (if it might help).

Each time the same Error:

I have clipped this from a Google search I did on that error message - perhaps this would help.  To test, just paste the dll into your System32 folder.  To undo, simply delete the dll.  I would imagine a re-install of the software once the dll is present in the System32 folder would be needed.

Anyways, here is what I found:

Ok, I have figured this out.  A file called GDIplus.dll needs to be located in C:\WINNT\System32 directory.

Here is the address from the Microsoft Website:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6A63AB9C-DF12-4D41-933C-BE590FEAA05A&displaylang=en

Hope that helps,

JUST GO TO CONTROL PANEL AND UNINSTALL MICROSOFT VISUAL C++  2010 10.0.40219 BOTH X86 & X64 (OR WHICH EVER VERSION THE INSTALLER IS TRYING TO INSTALL_ LOOK AT THE INSTALLATION DATES TO FIND OUT IN " ADD REMOOVE PROGRAMS"). THEN INSTALL MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ 2010 10.0.30319 FROM MICROSFT, BOTH X86 AND X64 (just google it).  THEN RUN THE INSTALLER AGAIN AS ADMIN. THIS IS. I HAD THE SAME EXACTLY PROMBLEM AND SOLVED IT THIS WAY. IT TOOK ME 4 DAYS TO REALIZE THE PROBLEM.

hello. I tried this last suggestion and I still have the failure. I am trying to install the SONAR Professional 64bit.
I used to have the X2 installed with no issue whatsoever on the same computer (Dell XPS all in one) on WIndows 8.1

Any help is valuable. You imagine how one can feel to pay for something that can not be used.

Cheers,
P.S.
I just found out that the 32bit version installs properly.
So now it remains to be understood what is making the 64bit version fails to register the dll's.

If I run regsvr32 manually, on any of the DLL for which I receive the pop up error from the Sonar installer, I get an error saying that the DLL doesn't seem to be compatible and that I should check that the DLL is indeed for 32 bit if it was supposed to be for the 32bit version or regsvr32, or 64 bit if it was run with the 64bit version of regsvr32.
I am running the 64 bit, because i am running from its location C:\Windows\System32\Regsvr32, which is the 64bit.

Any one any clue, it will be truly appreciated.

Cheers,
/Flavio

It is the incorrect to say that DX won't work in x64. The truth is there is no bridge from 32 to 64 bit as there is for VSTs but many of Sonars DX plugins have been ported to 64 bit and work just fine. Also Sonar has many DX plugins that have been ported to x64 for use in Vegas which has been 64 bit since version 12.
