1. Using full Kontakt player for bass; in this case, Scarbee Jay Bass.
2. There is a volume/gain slider on the Kontakt interface.
3. No matter where I set it, as soon as the track starts playing, it jumps to a very quiet level (like -11.3).
4. There are no controllers in the bass MIDI.
5. Only one other track has MIDI at this point, and I have the problem even when I mute the other tracks or solo the bass.

I had this problem before and can't figure out where it's coming from.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue a while back and I don't remember how I fixed it but IIRC, I think I had some automation on the track that was causing it to jump up every time I hit Play. Might click the READ button off just to check it...

Hi Konrad,
Almost every time this happens to me it's because I've moved (or just touched) the volume fader on the corresponding MIDI track in Sonar. IIRC you can right-click the fader and disable the control.

Good luck,
Dean

I found a setting in each of those programs that you can either check or remove the check from (cannot recall which way I had to go on it), to tell the synth software not to have the master volume react to CC 7 data.

It was easier to get to the option for Battery 3, and it appears that for Kontakt it is instrument specific, so it is a bit more work.

You can change that behavior by turning off an option called: " Accept standard controllers for Volume and Pan" for each KONTAKT instrument.

For each instrument you want changed, once it is loaded click on the Wrench button at the top left of the instrument UI, then click on Instrument Options, then on Controller.

You will see "Accept standard controllers for Volume and Pan" and it will be checked.  Remove the check.

Give the above a try and see if that helps.

That should be it ... plagued me just the other day ...

I guess disabling the fader would work too - hadn't thought of that, as I frequently use the midi track faders.

Edited to add: Good idea.

Either way should give you a way to get past this issue,

One can insert a CC11 at the beginning and Sonar use that as the starting volume. I do this using the List View.

+1 on inserting CC11. I always insert a CC11 for Kontakt.

Yes, count me in and having seen this behavior before.... I just ignored it and turned the fader higher.  Good to hear some suggestions on how to deal with this for the next time I noticed this behavior.

Thanks guys,
Jim
