  • Are the monthly downloads cumulative?

I think the install for Sonar is most likely cumulative but the Anderton stuff is a different file size each month and the current one is smaller than last months update.

The Boz download this month is bigger so one might assume that it includes the Bark of the Dog stuff as well.

Is all this documented somewhere and I just missed it?

Thanks

So far all the installers have been cumulative except for the Anderton Collection which was used to deliver the Brian Hardgroove Collection during Braintree. Since Braintree, the Biran Hardgroove Collection was removed from the Anderton Collection and should be listed as a separate installer. Except for exclusive content, the installers have to be cumulative in order for new members to get a full version of SONAR.

How will this work, say for example, if I re-install my computer from scratch in 2 years time and still a paying member? would I still be able to install all old 'exclusive' content such as the Brian Hardgroove collection from command centre? or is it advisable to save that installer offline for future use?

It would not matter if you were a member or not 2 years from now, if you fulfilled the terms of purchase whatever content you received during your membership would be in your store account along with the rest of SONAR. Whether to install from the Command Center or offline installer would be your choice.

Glad you posted this here as I asked this question in the release thread but it was not answered due to multi conversations.
What I'm seeing is this new system is still not 100% for all types of users.
I think my solution will be to use the offline download and I will not even bother with the Command Centre. It's nice that all the extra junk is going to be separated as it's of no value to me anyway so glad I can just get the core software. I can see that 2 years down the road we will need an index for our store account just to find stuff!

So if I understand correctly. The Anderton updates are cumulative except that the HardGroove stuff was removed and put in its own installer.

So going forward if I only wanted all the Anderton Content I could just install the most recent one or will I still need to download the Anderton collection each month to be sure I have what I need?

In general I like the way things are going but a little more information would be quite helpful.

I have gone to using the manual download option since for me the CCC is not mature and does not download well. I fails frequently downloading and download speed is poor. If I download manually and it fails I can just restart where I left off and that saves a lot of time.

I just place the files in the CCC download folder (mine is in a custom location) and then I can install manually or use CCC at my discretion.

Thanks for your replies.

This is a guess as the process is still fairly new.
Installing the most recent Anderton Collection will get you current.
Exclusive content will show up as additional installers after the month introducing the content has lapsed.

Re "exclusive content," it seems to me it would make more sense to have that in its own installer when it's released rather than the month after. Otherwise, we'll see the same thing we did with the Hardgroove installer each time. That had the same content as what was released with Braintree, but showed up in CC with a red dot only because the installer had changed. [At least that's my understanding.]

I think Cakewalk are fine tuning the update delivery system with each monthly release. It's clear to see that bit by bit they are responding to comments from the membership and of course their own roadmap.

Don't forget that the CCC keeps all your downloads to a location of your choice as per the options dialog.

So there's the option to keep these for backup or rely on Cakewalk to keep everything in your SSO account in perpetuity.

I remember scook having that conversation with a Cakewalker and it was confirmed that indeed Cakewalk will ensure that all your files are maintained in your account.

Yes, we are still only a few months into the process. I am guessing about how it will work in the near term and expect the process to be refined as time goes on.
