  • Sonar Platnum sluggish graphic engine : SOLVED ( still slower than x1 but not crazy)

Ok guyz , i've been pointing this out since first platnum release (even after X2 / X3 release) and it's even worst with the last one .....

Slow , slow  graphical response , code optimistaion ? graphic engne redesign ? prochannel impact on it ? priorisation of audio drivers ?

i don't know but here's what's the deal :
2 videos , one with inserting a multimbrale template based synth, the other just switching screensets ..

Video one :

please bakers , please tell us you have a look at it !!!!

While I do not share your experience, you may want to create a problem report to let them know about your issue.

Zo
do you have X1 and Paltnum side to side ?

That's bizarre, and definitely not normal for Platinum. If I insert Aria Player with one MIDI and all 32 mono outputs, all tracks are up and ready to go in a few seconds, just like you showed in X1. For me X1d is maybe a hair faster -  like 5 seconds vs. 7 for X3 and Platinum, but I would attribute that in part to Prochannel having Console Emulators and other default modules on all tracks that X1 doesn't, and maybe in part to the more graphically complex GUI.

Likewise screensets take no longer to switch in Platinum than in X1 or X3. 1-2 seconds.

Clearly Platinum is not happy on your system for some reason.

Zo, sorry to say that but Platinum performance is nothing like that. It's like what brundfly said ... maybe notch slower than X1 (if at all) ... if I insert a 16+ output synth from a template routed to individual tracks it goes bam-bam-bam-bam-bam... and it's there ...

There must be something weird going on on your system: So what's the toast message saying in the lower right corner? (can't read it off the video) ... is that the background scan for the plugins or is it some other warning message???

I think the problem is related to the VST Sonar is loading ... could you please try and report back if it is all VSTis that show this behaviour or just some ... does VST reset + VST scan fix it ??? does turning off "auto scan VST in the background" off fix it?

as regards screensets: they are also definitely faster on my system. I noticed 2 things on your video: you have (A) pretty full drives on your computer (what is that? dongle? usb sticks? backup drives?) ... and (B) every screenset that takes long is showing the browser, the screensets without the browser are much faster ... try to hide the browser from the screenset and see if it is faster ... if so, the problem is with the files/directory that browser is looking (and there are forum posts on how to improve that) ...

Thks a lot for your inputs , guyz
i must give you some precisions :

1° multitimbral insert is super fast , it's doing it on templates only

2° default channel strips si the lightest on my templates (eq alone)

3° Making a template from scratch does the same , notice that my template insert a drum bus and that's it , no fx , no sends , ect)

4) The drive (pretty full is a usb stick for waves licences)

5) the screensets are the same in both projects (x1 and paltnum) so even if the browser is here , it's here for both ;)

it's not system related , since it wasn't like that on the braintree upadte (even if it was long)  and i remenber that  X3 was slower than X1 (like 2 time slower) on another desktop (I7 920 based ) a desktop made by and for Cakewalk (integrator)

Specs are :

Molten Muse + = I7 4790s , 16GB of ram, 2 ssd evo's (one for OS , one for Data)
RME UCX 128 samples (tried all buffer size)

Again inserting a multimbrale from scratch is fast .... via a template (and not only a multitimbrale ) and bam  = slow jam

Concerning the gui slowness ....well i can't explain this , it wasn't here last upadte ...

I have X1->Plat all installed and not seeing a difference to that extent.

The only concern that stands out is in the beginning of the second video two of your drives are near full. Resolution is bad but you opened the project from one of them. Disk drives cache to themselves and over 90% full they can lose performance quickly. Fragmentation can be another issue. When a drive has to seek like crazy to cache into "discrete holes" you will notice it.

Defragging those drives is a good starting place, especially to consolidate free space to minimize seeking. Moving some of that data elsewhere to make the free space chunk even bigger should also help.

In a highly fragmented drive, the heads need to go all over just to get the piece parts to load into RAM. If you installed Platinum to either of those, this may be the crux of what you are seeing.

Edit: I read FreeFlyBertl's response after typing this.

Thks for the answer .... again those drives are isb sticks ...i m using ssd ... maintenance is done here ....
Even if i m computer enginneer , your answers are welcome since sometime we don t pay attention to dumb things ....

I disabled the the vst scan , still the same , i tried with other vst s , still the same , making a template from scratch , save  hang for 4min  like inserting it in fact .....

I m still trying to isolate the thing , my question is do you guyz actually use multitembrale vst templates ?

And again i must reminds you that x1 uses the same pltaform , same conditions , same ressources ....

I m rolling back pre update to check and make a video ....instead of working!!!!!

Hi Zo,

I checked on this on my system ... I had not installed Sonar Cambridge yet, so I could check w/ Braintree and after the install with Cambridge ...

Any both are showing identical performance w/ respect to screensets and synth loading:

Switching screensets is instantaneous in small projects, but takes about 1-2 seconds while playback of a 55 track project and 2-3 seconds for 100 tracks ...

Inserting VST w/multi-out takes about 1-3 for the VST and then approx. 1 sec per track ... not superfast but a drum template comes in in about 10-13 seconds ... no differenes observed between track templates and inserting the synth from the synth rack ...

I know this does not help you a lot, but I suggest requsting to move this thread to the Sonar forum - becuase it's not yet reproducible and there is also higher post frequency ...

Anyway, I'll keep thinking ...

EDIT: yes, I do use multi-timbral/multi-track templates ...and had not observed what you are seeing yet (I do have reoccuring issues with K5 and its dislike for Roland drivers, but that's a different story ...)

Ok clean install and all = crashing

I then checked the exe properties (to be sure 100) its in admin ...even if the icon is showing ....i then discovered that its in windows 8 compatibility mode ....im on 8,1. So i unchecked it and its working .....don t ask me why it was in 8 mode .....!!!!
